This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

Some sympathy for this potentially made up woman but I wonder how the poster feels about the numerous people who would love to be able to call a house their own and form relationships with their neighbours but can't because of the housing market. Does their emotional plea count for anything?

Appears there's been no move to unfreeze Local Housing Allowance, which will leave private renters facing another 18 months with rents rising and no extra help to cover the cost.

Reeves now raising taxes on landlords - who pay a lower rate on rental income than their tenants. Not National Insurance - a new categorisation of income tax, so retirees will pay it too. However, company landlords won't, so this may see more landlords incorporate to dodge it.

Good point from Dan here - there are loads of very pricey homes in outer London which have a relatively low council tax band so won't be affected by the reported changes.

Good point from Dan here - there are loads of very pricey homes in outer London which have a relatively low council tax band so won't be affected by the reported changes.

Lovely short thread (with a v good piece at the end). I think Ruth's point at the end is entirely right. Also I think shows that 'being an effective minister' is a skillset in itself. Castle was not a transport wonk or labour market wonk or a welfare wonk, yet she was v effective in all three roles.

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!
This was done despite fierce opposition.

The GR team is not lazy, so we have never campaigned for renting to be put on the national curriculum.
However, now mortgages (mortgages!) have been recommended to go in it, it feels like we'll have to try and get space for the more immediate tenure today's schoolkids will need to get to know

The point about Awaab's Law is that ordinary use of the property should not result in condensation mould. So cooking, washing, washing and drying clothes, and indeed breathing should not result in excessive condensation. If it does, there is a problem with the property.
