Apparently the former colonies are also in want of a King.

My sincere thanks to Peers for completing their scrutiny of the Renters’ Rights Bill yesterday.

With no Lords amendments coming back to the Commons, the Bill will soon receive Royal Assent allowing us to transform the experience of private renting for millions of tenants.

🚨GREAT NEWS FOR RENTERS🚨

Last night, we defeated last-ditch amendments that would have weakened tenants' rights and shifted power back towards landlords.

The Bill now just needs sign-off from the Commons (and the King) before becoming the Renters' Rights Act!

I see the Government have also published their unhinged opinion on literature:

Do you want to give Keir Starmer a kick up the bum? Vote Powell.

Do you want to avoid undermining the Government even further? Vote Phillipson.

If you made Shakespeare do a GCSE exam in any of his plays he'd be baffled. He just wrote stuff that he thought people would pay to see.

Everthing they teach you in English Literature is plausible-sounding bullshit. The entire subject is a conspiracy by the publishers of set texts and revision guides.

Another one falls in Kent.

Reform has suspended county councillor Robert Ford after a complaint was made about him by 'several female members of staff.'

The party said that Cllr Ford refused to engage with the complaints process, so he has had the whip removed pending a disciplinary process.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

For too long, section 21 has meant many tenants fear eviction simply for asking for repairs - as @darlingtom.bsky.social says, "England has the weakest tenant protections in all of Europe".

The Renters' Rights Bill cannot come soon enough.

Seems odd to see people I know would be repulsed at the idea that the state impose death on an offender celebrating other lags doing it.

Watkins was one of the most vile criminals I have ever read about, an offender whose depravity fell to lows even this hardened ex-prosecutor had not seen before. I am however uncomfortable with the celebrations of his murder. /1

They have fired the staff of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and 70 Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, who are disease detectives that respond to outbreaks around the world.

I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous it is to dismantle our disease surveillance infrastructure.
