He/Him
He really meant YAML. A set of declarative YAML files, on top of which we added templating because declarative only takes you so far, and more shell scripts of course. 🤣
Kubernetes is the sum of all the shell scripts, and practices, system administrators have cobbled together over time, presented as a single system behind a declarative set of APIs.

the problem is, the reason people are "into" non-deterministic automation is they're absorbed in fantasy.

shell scripts and pipes are too real — YOU have to do the work, to think things through, not wave a magic wand — and therefore unappealing.
One day the industry will recognize the drawbacks of AI agents and nondeterministic automation, and rediscover the UNIX philosophy of chaining together small purpose built tools in a low cost and predictable way, otherwise known as shell scripts.

Jake's made a great synopsis of DHH. I first met DHH almost 25 years ago, spoke at his office, helped promote his products, hosted him at events. DHH thinks you can tell by *looking* whether someone is a "native". Because he thinks people who look like me can never belong to our countries. Fuck him.

After listening to about a dozen first-hand accounts, I’ve published what I know about the RubyGems takeover.
Shopify, pulling strings at Ruby Central, forces Bundler and RubyGems takeover
Ruby Central recently took over a collection of open source projects from their maintainers without their consent.

Hey, #ruby folks! I've been one of the #RubyGems maintainers for the last decade.

Ruby Central has forcefully taken control of the RubyGems organization on GitHub, the `rubygems-update` and `bundler` gems on rubygems[.]org, and more.

You can read the details here: pup-e.com/goodbye-ruby...

I dreamed that I'd have a lot more free time while waiting for the polite rejections of this job hunting.

But no, there's a lot to do. Tons of stuff to write, program, read, pictures to take, things to fix, etc. I'd say 60% of this is valuable work, but it's still… free? We're doing society wrong.

5 hours ago I read on Reddit that Airbnb is increasing it's service fees for hosts from 3% to 15.5%

I knew it would raise questions from hosts

"What will the difference in my revenue be?"

So I created and shipped a FREE Airbnb Revenue Calculator tool

In 25 years, every business school in the country will be doing case studies about how a long defunct company known as “Google” once had an unbeatable lock on online information retrieval and then started doing shit like this.

it's like buying an nft, but it takes way more computing power, and has absolutely no resell value

I heard so many stories like this when researching my piece on engineers and scientists leaving the U.S. or planning to.

It was really astonishing, some of their tales
I'm already up to four families I know in the last two months who are moving to the UK, France, Germany and Shanghai because of the instability of US funding, and worries about their future if they stayed. Reminds me of the fall of Constantinople and the spread of knowledge into Europe.

Some true cyberpunk shit
1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.
LLMs hallucinating nonexistent software packages with plausible names leads to a new malware vulnerability: "slopsquatting."

Trump's idiotic tariffs (and his general misunderstanding of how they work) have unleashed a new global trade war.
