What do Silicon Valley billionaires, religious parents of six, and eugenics-curious biotech founders have in common? They all want you to breed. A lot.

Welcome to the world of pronatalism, a growing movement that aims to solve the so-called population crisis by making more babies.
Why Elon Musk and JD Vance Are Obsessed With You Having More Babies
My strange weekend with the pronatalists.

just finished paying off my forty-year-old baby

starting the weekend off right (spending two hours arguing with health insurance over their denial of a $12,000 delivery bill because the hospital submitted my daughter’s birth date wrong and now I have to convince them my baby didn’t come out forty years old)

A major use-case for AI is reality destabilization.
This video, viewed millions of times on TikTok, Facebook and X, claims to show Venezuelans taking to the street to thank the US for detaining Maduro.

But the video is a combination of four AI-generated clips and was first posted on TikTok by a user who frequently shares AI videos. It's not real.

I had a Reddit post removed from an “Ask” subreddit because the mods said it could have been answered “by a search engine.”

Have any of them used a search engine lately? Search engines don’t answer shit anymore! They’re all completely enshittified. Why do you think I was on Reddit?

Everyone is agitated that Grok keeps sexualizing photos of women and children for users and ignoring that it is also editing photos in more modest ways, like putting women in, uh, Nazi uniforms.

A functional country would shut Grok down permanently. Like, immediately. Right now. Last week. Whatever. Just flip the switch. Obviously.

I think the AI angle of this is obscurant. It doesn’t matter that grok is “an AI” whatever you take that to mean. Suppose X hired a team of guys to photoshop the clothes off of women and children whenever anyone asks. That’s functionally identical what happening here. It’s not complicated.

So many in media are ill-equipped to interview officials about what’s happening because they begin with the presumption of legitimacy and don’t know enough about history or U.S. foreign policy to foment intelligent pushback and hold officials accountable.

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

The trouble is that Schumer thinks he is a fantastic communicator and nobody can make his party's case better than him, so he does all these interviews and it only makes Democrats look pathetically weak. If he was smarter he'd let the Dem senators who are better at it be the spokespeople.
We must focus on lowering costs for the American people, not starting new wars on a whim with no tangible strategy.

I'm satisfied that it's "about the oil" in the sense that rubio's baby is overthrowing the cuban government and he believes this whole shitshow will end venezuelan oil exports to cuba
The amount of “this is clearly about oil” posting across all platforms as story after story comes out where the oil industry is saying that the oil isn’t worth extracting is making me feel a little insane

Definitely the kind of irredeemable criminal monster we don’t want in America.

this is one of the problems with scheming viziers running the show, trump says, clearly, that it's about the oil, and to him, it might be; for rubio, it's something different, for hegseth, it's yet again something different. the insanity comes from trying to reconcile three competing thoughts

Excuse my optimism, but this passage in the New York Times today is the kind of blunt statement of the facts that NYT has been avoiding for years. They’re describing the Trump regime‘s actions in Venezuela as gunboat diplomacy and imperialism.
