Okay! One (1) pecan pie in the oven for us, plus one (1) to give away

I always forget just how much bigger a real pie pan is than a grocery store deep dish ... I kinda want to make the filling for my next one of these 1/3 again bigger and see if it fits (and see if it ever finishes baking...)

Senator Mark "Armed Services Committee" Kelly has an opportunity to do something really funny right now
Senator Kelly’s remarks in the video are “a 100% accurate representation of what the law says."

“No American citizen should have to deal with this type of preposterous investigation.”

- Professor Eugene Fidell, leading military justice expert in Wall Street Journal

Pentagon Investigates Misconduct Allegations Against Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly
The review comes after Kelly, a retired Navy captain, appeared in a video with other lawmakers telling military members not to obey unlawful orders.

...idk if we clicked the wrong button or if the picker grabbed the wrong one off the shelf, but I seem to have walnut pieces instead of pecan...

Anybody know if a walnut pie is any good?

I think I agree with Tom on this one--let SECTRANS worry about safety and capability, and let the old curmudgeons tell people how they should or shouldn't dress...
I wish Secretary Duffy would concentrate on keeping the skies safe and leave the moral hectoring to me. I'm better at it.
Sean Duffy: "Dressing with respect -- whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better which encourages us to maybe behave a little better. Let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport."

Dear retailers with brick and mortar store fronts and even the simplest webpage:

Put your hours on the front page.

I don't want to start an order for pickup, I just want to know how late I can get there and still walk in the door and finish my errand w/o rushing.

Well, I can't throw open my doors to everybody On Here for Thanksgiving, but I wish I could.

Hope each of you have a lovely, peaceful Thanksgiving and a full table, whether it's with your family, chosen family, or fewer folks if that's your thing.

I know holidays can be fraught. I can still hope!

I buy extra turkey necks and start a stock for the gravy with that, the bits they put in the cavity of the bird, and all the celery and onion ends from the rest of my prep plus a little, bc there's never enough gravy

The fat for the roux I can retrieve from the roasting pan before I start the gravy
My hot Thanksgiving take is you're not making enough gravy. Gravy is the water of life, there should be enough to drown the meat and every side. For a full bird feast you need to reduce a full quart of chicken stock to half before adding the turkey droppings.

Some people love the green bean stuff, and I have no malice towards it, but my Tx table is complete without it.

If I had to pick a second to axe, I love mac and cheese all year, but it is not necessary this day.
with charity and goodwill, i must here part ways with rolls.

The box I can find is not that big.
It's also not that surprising if you're digging thru it... old Cat 5 and stuff.

I also have a large box of much weirder cables (DB13W3 to multi-BNC, anyone?), but it has gone missing...
Bluesky, how big is your box of old cables? If you know you know.

Thread touching on morality, modesty, and charitability, à la CS Lewis and Cardinal Newman... worth a read, and not for nothing: the menswear guy is a remarkable man.
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

Entering my 40s was when I picked up brimmed hats.

What'd you pick up for your "I'm in my 40s" slot?
My friend just fuckin showed up with a corncob pipe & that’s when it hit me that we are all in our 40s which means we get one new accessory slot

Good pens: ✓
I have bought a ton of little low tech things over the course of the last couple years and I have made a few purchases that were very small but life changing for a middle aged lady:

-hand fans
-cotton hankies
-cheapass reading glasses
-decent pens (you pen nerds were totally right about pens)

Report from my wife:

Kids were being insufferable. Sent them outside for 10 mins.

One came back inside in exactly 10 mins grumbling. One sat outside for a while teaching herself guitar. Two more disappeared into the woods...
