I'm writing a simple found family fantasy story & that's great, but there's also some really ugly cultural conflicts re: race, & while I totally agree that fairy stories can be whatever & don't need racism as The Problem, my characters wanted to protest our RL societal calamity & I can't blame 'em.

Wow. Only like every librarian, teacher, professor, writer, etc worth their salt has been saying this since the damnable thing came out.
I hoped to use this site to stay up on TTRPGs, hear about comics/anime/animation/etc., chat with folk about computer games, discuss all the amazing books, learn about native plants & gardening, talk about hiking, camping & the starlit sky, read about poetry and visual art, & so much music. I swear!

Generally, the press refuses to push our gov't to be accountable, is thrilled w/ MAGA darlings using center-right talking points & is unwilling call out nasty behavior. I'm at the University of Montevallo's Library taking care of my morning workaday, and I have Mom with me. I asked the librarian for assistance with a large print book, and she spent the better part of 15 minutes scouring the fiction section for a good selection. My Mom is now reading Native Son.

So, it's Veteran's Day. I hate war and how we prioritize war over everything in this country. I do not hate soldiers, because for many it is literally their only way out. It was for my Mom. I wish my dad never joined, because he died last month from drinking away the demons of Vietnam. Fuck war.

I'm thinking of the story arc in One Piece where the horrible king of Drum Island abolished doctors in the island, except for those who took care of him, thus forcing anyone sick to beg for treatment, subsequently impoverishing them & subjugating them to the crown.
Not sure why this came to mind.
