@jtkantor.bsky.social hey Josh, it's my spouse's birthday! He's now off the vintage to unironically enjoy agèd slacker rock. Could we hear some "Gold Soundz" tonight?

@jtkantor.bsky.social It is our buddy Max's first game! I'd like to think "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" would make for a memorable Sox debut.

First breaths of a hospitable Earth - Nature Geoscience
The oxygenation of the atmosphere was a pivotal point in Earth’s evolution. Punctuated environmental perturbations in its run-up laid the foundations for this event.

This is an absolute disaster. If we don't stop this, they will turn NSF into a pawn of the Trump administration. There will be no research on climate, biodiversity, or anything that isn't eugenics or AI or how to more efficiently destroy the planet for profit.

This cannot be allowed to happen.

Even if this doesn't all happen exactly this way, parts of these directives are ruled illegal, the agency is rebuilt some years from now, etc. the damage that has been done (and is being done every day) will be felt for decades.
Exclusive: National Science Foundation staff were told today that the agency’s 37 divisions—across all eight directorates—are being abolished and the number of programs within those divisions will be drastically reduced.

Our NOAA Climate Adaptation Partnership for the Northwest region was terminated this week. I'm so proud of the work we did to support the climate resilience efforts of frontline communities and Tribal Nations. And I'm deeply concerned for what the loss of this support means for NW communities.

NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) is being forced to decommission several paleo databases (including data I used for my dissertation).

You will be able to request archived data via email, but I HIGHLY advise downloading what you need ASAP. 🧪🌊

New England! Did you feel the M3.9 earthquake earlier today? This isn't a tectonically active region, but earthquakes do happen.

The last moderate quake here occurred in 2012, ~50 km to the north.
