There are a lot of people in this thread bringing up games they couldn't beat because of their build and while some of them I don't know anything about others are talking about games like Morrowind. Like you can beat down basically anything you can see with your fists from the start of the game
No, I 100% agree that computer RPGs these days have too much handholding. I, too, yearn for the days of being able to spend hours crafting my perfect build from hundreds of available options, only to discover that it mathematically cannot survive the mandatory rat fight portion of the first dungeon.

A real sign of the times is that I used to watch Heroes in parts on YouTube in computer labs around uni (this is also mostly how I watched Avatar)
Season 1 of Heroes was a serious event, I didn't realise it had been memory-holed so badly
