Lmao my maga/oann relative lives in this district, he's going to have a field day
this lady's district has one of the funniest shapes out there imo. they made a black-majority district by connecting two widely separate black-majority urban areas and a black-majority small town with a huge swath of uninhabited swamp

All cities have a proper time of year. For Baltimore, in my opinion, that time is late fall, when auburn leaves cling to autumn trees for dear life as the sky and the harbor fuse into a single gray sheet, onto which projects the ubiquitous red brick forged from our ample iron-rich clay deposits.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

I can't believe it's taken me this long, but honestly I'm surprised everyone was ok to settle on "Epstein files" when "pedo-files" has been available the whole time.

GOAT animal facts thread (though sadly no actual goats)
OK, this is extremely cool. Comparable to the alligator bungie genitalia or the lid that keeps tarsiers' eyes in their head when they jump!

Fascists have terrible media literacy exhibit umpteen million
Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino "also revered Starship Troopers, Robert Heinlein's 1959 military sci-fi classic about an interstellar war between humans and alien bugs - a book his sister says he still reads to this day."
An endless amount of deranged details in this interview with Greg Bovino's sister, but most notably that his uncle produced the Jack Nicholson movie The Border and the depiction of the agent as corrupt radicalized him as a 12-yr-old.

"Since then, he was like, 'Dude, I want to do Border Patrol.'"

Kilowatt hours per dollar is a cursed unit, though useful for electronic backing. It should, as a rule, stay pretty small
Techbros: “We reinvented money and now it’s computer money and it’s totally better than old money except also it’s value is still technically calculated by the standard of old money oh ALSO it needs more power than many countries, does your inferior dollar bill need to be plugged in? I THINK NOT.”
Bitcoin now consuming as much energy as the entire country of Pakistan.

That seems bad.

Can't say I'm thrilled to be vindicated in telling my conservative/gop supporting Jewish relatives they're getting in bed with folks who always have us on their list of "others"
how I feel watching the GOP fully turn on Jews in real time as a transgender Latina Jewish woman of color (I was already triple fucked before this happened)

Transportation costs are the second largest burden on American family budgets (17%), after housing (33%)!
To address the affordability crisis, we must create cities with abundant housing of all types (subsidized, social, coop, market rate) and make walking, biking, and taking transit convenient.

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures
It was announced on October 16, 2025 that VIBE was "joining forces" with Rolling Stone. As a result, the majority of VIBE employees were laid off. If you have the means to give, this team could use the support! www.gofundme.com/f/support-vi...

Congress’s shutdown deal eliminated key food safety rules, blocking agencies from enforcing measures to prevent contamination and trace outbreaks. This rollback has coincided with a surge in hospitalizations and deaths from foodborne illnesses.

Trump admin Is attempting to massive cut federal transit funds, seeking to:
1–Eliminate transit account, which funds billions of $ in capital expenses for transit agencies
2–Prevent state DOTs from “flexing” funds for transit

These changes, if they occurred, would be devastating for US transit.
POLITICO Pro: Trump administration proposals seek to eliminate transit funding
DOT recently sent two proposals to the White House budget office seeking to pare back transit money.
