Someone suggested Weir should complete the joke by writing a story called "The Last Algorithm", but personally I think Weir should write a story called "'The Last Algorithm' by Andy Weir", about an author named Andy Weir who learns an AI wrote a story under his name and nobody believes it wasn't him
The Weir entry is just such a perfect "self"-insert joke, if I believed LLMs had a self.

It feels ridiculous to be a SF writer and rail so much against this sort of thing but, like GenAI, the existence of this kind of misdirection is actively going to set back real research because it will hoover up the support and funding with large promises, and deliver nothing of value.
All of this ‘recreation’ is a grift. Someone took a wolf and inserted some maybe dire wolf genes to make a worse wolf. It is not the extinct beast ij form nor can it behave like one nor have any natural ecosystem to belong to. It’s a shill for investors.
Dire wolves were not close relatives of gray wolves. They last shared a common ancestor more than 5 million years ago. What Colossal has done is make something new and slapped a dire wolf sticker on it, as if an organism equals a hypothetical genome.

Another green card holder with a clean criminal record and legal status was detained and is being held under terrible conditions. Fabian Schmidt (34) from Germany was detained at the airport in Boston and is being held indefinitely.
