These are the conversations we have in the fun areas of the humanities. These are the skills that the humanities, at their best, cultivate into us. They allow us to deepen our appreciation for our culture and our experience of the world.

Next time somebody tries to get me to justify the existence of the humanities, I’ll just point out how for the past two Super Bowls we’ve all jumped online and engaged in collective semiotics and hermeneutics of the half-time show as text.

Partway through telling my (5yo) kid about tapes and CDs, and realizing he had no frame of reference for “rewinding,” or any of it, I said, “This all makes me feel like I grew up in the olden days,” and without missing a beat he just chuckled and said, “Well, you did!”
You definitely want to learn to stop saying, "I am SO OLD!" long before the people to whom you're saying it just look at you in response with expressions that say, "I mean...yes."

The best world junior games have skill and speed and snarl and goaltending and just enough youthful idiocy that the whole thing tip into absolute chaos storms, and this is that plus a Czech team that clearly wants to punch Canada in the mouth plus a re-do on a penalty shot

I'm finishing off a project and I need your help for part of it. If you do Indigenous Land Acknowledgements at your meetings, classes, or events - why do you do them? If you don't do them, or if they bother you in some way - why? Can you please share this and also let me know your views either way?

Probably the most fun you can have reading a law story. The final line is *perfect*.
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.
