I got this Böttger Lustre tea bowl at Sotheby's a few years ago as part of a lot of Meissen wares. It's the only piece I own with this decoration, it's 'not my thing' and I assumed it was 19th century. The specialist at Sotheby's tells me it's 18th century, so I'll take that. Nicely gilt! (see ALT)

Ummmm wut?
Jones Green Bean Casserole Soda (2004-2004): A sickly green soda made to taste like the divisive Thanksgiving side dish, with notes of earthy green beans, fried onions, and cream of mushroom soup. Sold as part of a novelty holiday-themed pack of sodas.

My take is very simple. Is the artist alive/not in prison to make money off my consumption?

That one holiday album is amazing because of the performers, and the songs are so joyful. It gets a pass.
My hesitancy in sharing this is that Ronnie’s husband, producer Phil Spector, was a horrible man who should have been arrested at the time for intimate partner violence and eventually killed a later partner.

The Tragic Real-Life Story Of Ronnie Spector - Grunge
Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes climbed to fame in the 1960s with hits like "Be My Baby" and "Walking in the Rain." But her story was full of tragedy.

Also - I’ve posted it before but we don’t talk often enough about enablers: legal counsel, HR executives , marketing departments who enable ‘geniuses’.

Watch this scene from ‘The Assistant’ if you can today because it’s an excellent example:

I think the only thing we can do is provide context when we share works of art.

There are about six male musical artists that I won’t even play at home or provide oxygen to by reposting on my feed.

I think context is key.
I think about this a lot. What do we do when someone so prolific does something horrible?

I mean, it takes HUNDREDS of people to make a feature film. (For a blockbuster, thousands)

Harvey Weinstein produced 330 films.

That represents the collective work of tens of thousands of people.

I agree that Bluesky has many issues, but I will say that if your personal feed sucks, there’s a very easy fix, and it’s following the right people, muting as needed, and having your blocking finger ready. Curating your experience is easier here than most places

The world I see is different
Not one of hopelessness
We can make a difference
Can still fight all of this

Each of us a spark
Ignite the change we seek
Don't give in to doubt
Or let yourself be meek

The eyes of history
Watching you and I
Inside you is inferno
Dont be sold the lie

I 💯 agree with Bouba’s take.

I just think memories are short and knowing that Phil Spector was a gaslighting and violent monster gives you some perspective and context.
We must acknowledge that Phil Spector was a terrible human being. But I don't think that means we memory-hole anything he worked on (as we do for, say, Gary Glitter). Because the practical effect would be that we no longer hear the work of many WOC, just like Ronnie Spector.
