Another cracking bike-bus this morning. So good for the kids to get out after yesterday’s biblical rain ☔️

Big thanks to PC Bowden for accompanying the crowd 👮🏻‍♂️

The latest National Travel Survey clearly questions that old myth about "Active travel is just for the middle classes, what about working people who have to drive?"

“The lesson from these junctions is that with political will, there is a way. Claims we need to ‘balance’ motor traffic, public transport, cycling, walking and wheeling, are bogus… The compromises, delays, and inaction around too many junctions are currently killing and injuring too many Londoners”
Why aren’t London’s lethal junctions being fixed faster? Transport chiefs happy with “acceptable” number of crashes to avoid impacting bus times, cycling campaigners say – as “people keep dying”
New research by the London Cycling Campaign found that the capital’s ten most dangerous junctions resulted in four cyclist deaths and 51 serious injuries between 2020 and 2024

*All-time record* set at the Omni Centre cycle lane on the 7th November - 2,265 cycle journeys.

I can only speculate that the rollout of Voi e-bikes has significantly boosted cycling in Edinburgh this autumn, bucking the seasonal trend.

Cities don't have a crime safety problem, they have a car safety problem

Properly designed bike infrastructure doubles as an emergency access lane, allowing first responders to bypass gridlocked car traffic.

This completely nullifies the argument that bike lanes are a safety risk for response times. But it only works if you build them wide enough to be functional.

☠️ Death to all pedestrians ☠️

🧟‍♀️ To intimidate and frighten people from our streets 🧟‍♀️

🛞 For scale, a 33” tyre would come to waist height on an adult 🛞

🙏 Let’s pray it’s too heavy to be used with a regular license in the UK 🙏

Hyundai has one major problem in America: It can't compete with American or Japanese trucks and off-roaders. Now, the company is fixing that.

Just found myself walking outside from store to store on pedestrian paths with trees, benches and even a nice town square.
However instead of this being a part of a city, this is built in the middle of nowhere accessible basically by car only.

Argh. That diversion is a route I avoid cycling whenever possible because heading west it spits you out into a terrifying death-is-imminent beast of a roundabout (plus the stretches of protected lane flood in heavy rain).

Does anyone know if there needs to be some sort of risk assessment on this? Sending thousands of cyclists around Crewe Toll, and with only two days notice, is absolutely insane.

Edinburgh Council once again demonstrating what they really think about walking, cycling, running in this city.

This is the equivalent to closing the bypass for two months and directing drivers over the top of the Pentlands.

Compare and contrast the Government language.

£3,750 EV grant on a £35k car: ‘helping families’.

Cycle to Work: ‘subsidising leisure’.

And yet cycling delivers TEN TIMES the impact of electric cars for reaching net zero. It’s almost like narrative, not data, is driving policy.

Edinburgh has lost the plot. Today my kid and I (me w/2 more kids on my bike) had to bike through frozen leaves on Queensferry Rd. We tried to use the road but a Range Rover decided we were impinging on his freedom and drove us into the wands. The leaves are well done falling and yet they remain…

Now reading that one alt route via Ferry Rd is closed for 2 months. I’m sorry this is all far too much and too difficult. We don’t own a car, Edinburgh Council - you should be making things safer not actively dangerous! @edi.bike @spokes.org.uk @blackfordsaferoutes.co.uk #EdTravCyc

That's an absolute joke of a diversion, which "Gavin
N. Brown" should be forced to cycle daily, in the dark, from now until the 16th January or until such time as he accepts the ridiculous nature of it

Also a good example of why so many Edinburgh cyclists are cynical about the Roseburn Path changes. No real trust that necessary diversions or alternative routes will be well planned, well communicated, or well implemented.

Don’t ask for views, just do it - otherwise you’ll be swamped by a small but very vocal minority of motonormatives crying that they’re having their rights taken away.

Current proposed designs like this in Edinburgh are signalised…

…meaning that people on bikes & walking face very long wait times for safe passage…

Which means there’s a temptation to skip the lights, or to not use the facility at all, defeating its entire purpose 🙄

Driver knows to expect you & bike. So you feel welcome. There will be a bike limit though per bus. Only ever seen two on at once. They do have inside space for bike / wheelchair. ScotRail offer 6 spaces on Highland. Ember's E1 route to Dundee has bus every 30 minutes. Inverness route to increase 🚌

Who should we be contacting about this? Is there an appeals process for a TTRO? This is an unreasonable amount of time to close the path, and the diversion route is unsafe and inadequate.
