Academic wine mom anime statue enthusiast who posts about behavioral research, books, tropical weather, fanart, & seals. Eternally obsessed with Obito, Kakashi, and Fire Emblem. Still naming myself the same bad joke about a jpop group I liked 20 years ago.
Pinned
Bumping this so anyone wondering who just followed them knows that yes I am the person who always liked your post 5 seconds after you posted it on Twitter and also my contributions to this site are 90% dressing up a naked Kakashi statue (10% Dr Pepper experiments and caramelizing onions)

my only notes to people under 30: your 30s aren't for ditching fandom, they're for re-evaluating all the "cringe" stuff you liked as a teenager through the lens of someone who can appreciate it fully, going, "that owned, actually," and becoming even more unhinged about it. please look forward to it.

In sum: all global prevalence rates about gaming addiction/disorder seem to be a partial combination of both gaming *and* gambling prevalence. The same applies to other studies, which use gaming measures in relevant languages. Chinese seems to be a major exception.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

Important to note that bearing witness is something people have done since long before video existed. We bear witness by listening, but sharing the stories, by refusing to let them be distorted or ignored. We do not have to watch execution videos to do that.
Bearing witness to atrocities is important. But nobody should have to see that unprepared. And depending on your situation, it might be better to never see it.

my favorite thing about a texas freeze is the very serious advice from the news and government on how to use a whataburger cup to insulate your outdoor spigots.

it is always a whataburger cup.

No one says to legit business owners, "hey I see there's an underground market selling toxic knock-offs of your product: how will you incorporate the toxic product AND protect your customers against its harms?" But apparently it's fine to make this suggestion to educators with respect to AI.
