The internet is a very good metaphor for the rest of society in one specific way: things aren't bad because people are just stupid and lazy. Things are bad because a lot of people worked incredibly hard to make them this bad, because they gain some benefit from that.

Sigh... "Could vaccines have caused big excess in England?" is brought up again by a British newspaper

So here is how excess looks like vs expected from pre-pandemic mortality trend once you account for covid, flu & heat

Me: You should mow the lawns in the evening with a cricket game on headphones.
Son: I don't like cricket, I'm a Badminton fan. (No he isn't)
Me: What would a radio commentary of badminton sound like?
Son: The first man hits it to the second man who hits it back.

But being Winston, and gaining power yet again off the backs of hysterics from The Very Easily Outraged, *actual rights* took a back seat... and he championed inspecting peoples genitals instead.

It’s a little bit ironic that the conservative movement that bought us the classic line “Facts don’t care about your beliefs” is now at the very vanguard of ignoring science, actively suppressing science education, and doing everything it can to ignore facts in opposition to their ideology.

I keep thinking this is the very definition of modern conservatism/neoliberalism:
