Also, anytime I see some twerp claiming a 30+ hour game is “too short” to be charging full price, I want to reach through the computer and slap them
There’s a special kind of gamer brain worm that thinks the price of games should be directly proportional to its budget

This goes hand in hand with the idea that the indie scene is unilaterally thriving as opposed to drowning in its own sea of content outside of the breakouts
Like, if a studio tries to get out of the budget rat race where games need to sell millions of copies to break even, a subset of gamers will decide that they should now be charging less for their game, even though that would return them to square one of needing to sell millions to break even

My thing now is pointing out to people that gaming trends they think of as “ten years ago” are actually more like twenty years ago

If you’re worried about Nigel Farage becoming Prime Minister, cheer up, he might be killed by falling masonry on his first day in office.

“Do you still think you can control them?”
Tommy Robinson is claiming credit for the language/policy being used by the Labour government (about deporting people found to be refugees once their home country is deemed safe)

I love people who respond to stories about MPs dragging their feet in renovating the existing Parliament by saying "turn Parliament into a museum and build a new one", as if they'd get a 2-for-1 deal

Was widely reported that golf courses take up more land than housing in the UK a few years ago, so the government can make this a reality with housing for as many as 40 million more if they have the guts to outlaw golf.

Was about to say, MPs are now very sheepish (as a class) about being seen to 'vote themselves more money', even if this is really just historic building preservation & workplace modernisation.

I’m sure the hung parliament that is likely to follow the next election will be able to make a decision 👍
A final decision on how to repair Britain’s crumbling parliament is likely to be postponed beyond the next general election, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Final decision on fate of crumbling UK parliament delayed to 2030s
It’s a fire-hazard that’s prone to tumbling masonry — but fear of a public backlash is again delaying repairs to the world famous building.

I mean I know this an overused phrase, but it’s true and it’s time we started acknowledging it in a UK context, particularly to avoid letting Labour and the political centre off the hook:

The cruelty is the point

Specifically to go to Britain you already need to have reached France, and every time these people chose the considerable effort and danger of getting to an island from there.

I figured British people would feel nice about that?

Agreed, it’s just so alien to me. If you’re proud of your country, and you don’t want people who would choose it as their home to build lives her, what exactly is it you’re so proud of?

Also, whilst I'm always a bit iffy about pro-immigration arguments framed around what they provide for us, I do find it annoying that huge chunks of our society view it as unpatriotic to want more people to be Brits
I’m not exactly anti-borders, as I recognise there is a theoretical point where immigration numbers present a logistical challenge, but I straight up do not understand the mindset that doesn’t take pride in people choosing to live in your country

The truth is a significant proportion of the population thinks asylum seekers (even the successful ones) are making it up or at least heavily exagerrating the problems in their home country

In part based on years of media uskng Asylum speaker as shorthand for freeloader.
