I can't believe we're arguing about tax increase on super to help mend the budget which actually won't raise anything, and then on the other size a gazillion dollars worth of our gas will be dug up and exported and obvs no tax paid on it + climate catastrophe. Great deals all around.

In which I point out that our Prime Minister might just be stretching the truth a tad when he says that Woodside's North West Shelf extension is needed to firm the Western Australian grid.

Did he tell you about how he grew up in social housing?
Fact Check: Woodside’s North West Shelf extension isn’t needed to firm the Australian grid
It does what it says on the tin.

New in PN: The Republican budget is an attack on the economy

"As a moral document, the Republican budget is an abomination, delivering largesse to the most comfortable and cruelty to the most vulnerable. As an economic plan, it could hardly be dumber."
The Republican budget is an attack on the American economy
Everywhere you look, it delivers blows to America's economic future.

I miss journalists, Trump staged an assassination attempt that a five year-old could figure out was fake and NYT’s thinks we need Ezra Klein interviewing Jake Tapper. The failure of MSM wasn’t in covering Biden’s age it was in ignoring Trump’s crimes for the last forty years.

Marles is deluded. In a world where merit mattered, he would be shown the door
Richard Marles was warned that if he knifed Mark Dreyfus and Ed Husic, there would be grave repercussions. Initially, he appeared to take it all on board. Then he didn’t.

Fascinating analysis here about how Advance made huge strategic error in whacking Greens and potentially helping Labor form a larger majority. I would add to this that Advance helped make the Liberals look more Trumpist right when Libs were trying to hide their MAGA hats. Well done Advance grubs!
As results came in, Liberal-backed activist group Advance took credit for the Greens scalps.

It has been quieter about Labor's big win. In fact, Advance quietly admitted its attacks may have helped its opponents win as Australia elected its most progressive parliament ever

I will forever be haunted by this footage.

Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.

What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives.

100s of millions of little kids today are now "projected to live unprecedented exposure to heatwaves, river floods, droughts, crop failures, wildfires and tropical cyclones" in their lifetimes.

Unprecedented: "extremes above the 99.99th percentile of exposure expected in a pre-industrial climate."

In fact, it's a TV show in which he says something increasingly stupid every day, and the viewers think "What a fucking idiot"

When most people say something stupid they try to make you forget it. When Trump says something stupid, he digs in and improvs alts off of it for a week.

This is, I believe, the most important thing you can know about the planetary crisis:

It is not too late.

The biggest fights are all still ahead of us—and the distance between the best futures still available and the worst catastrophes our inaction could bring on is truly vast....
A question-assertion I often hear:

"Isn't it too late?"

"Too late," here, meaning a state of affairs where our destabilization of the planet and limited human progress have doomed us inevitably to the most catastrophic of outcomes.

The simple answer is "No. It's not too late."
