Writer, reader, lover of trashy media. Occasionally I will post reviews of or rants about books, TV, and movies I enjoy. Also cat pictures

If you wonder why you mainly see 4 and 5 star book reviews on my feed, there's a reason. I'm here to talk about the media I love, not to fight other people about what they love. (Don't get me wrong, there is a place for critical reviews. I'm just choosing not to occupy that space personally.)

It’s entirely predictable in a really awful way that the tipping point was a white man getting killed.

Not that he should have been killed, or that he didn’t seem like a good person.

But we watched a little kid get used as bait and that wasn’t the tipping point. That’s telling.
“Republicans need the votes of at least seven Democrats to pass the legislation – and now they don’t have them.”

Alex Pretti’s murder by ICE was the breaking point for Senate Democrats who are now going to use their votes to block a bill to expand ICE’s budget.

I put my foot down halfway on and halfway off a curb and broke a bone in my foot.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

😅

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

AI cannot take accountability. AI cannot be “sorry.”

You have no control over the outputs of AI if you did not make it yourself, train it on very specific data sets, and create extremely rigorous control methods. Even then the safeguards are limited.

The creators must be held accountable

The reason that some men think AI can “apologize” is because they don’t see actually feeling sorry they did the thing in the first place as important. Pay attention to who is telling on themselves here.

My sourdough starter, Shilo is still flourishing. She's had three babies that are also still going strong: Beulah, Kayden, and Spock. (My only condition when giving out pieces of my starter is you must name them and you must tell me the name.) Spock has apparently had many babies. 😆

Reached my Goodreads goal of reading 50 books this year! I might still be able to knock out one or two more before New Years, but even if I don't, I'm glad to have hit that target.

An easy way to explain this:

Which is easier to do, bake a cake from scratch, or fix a cake that someone baked after they accidentally used salt instead of sugar?
Just a thing about this: a common statement in writing is that you can fix crap, but you can't fix a blank page.

I have heard AI apologists claim that this is why it's fine to generate a first draft.

Now, to be clear, fuck this.

But also: an AI draft is a fucking blank page.
I know I don’t talk about writing much. It is because I am writing so slowly.

But I want you to know that I am taking a part of this story that absolutely sucked and took me months to produce four of the worst chapters I have ever written and in the edit I figured out how to fix it.

I keep wanting to say something, and I keep not knowing what to say.

The trans community does not harm cis people by existing. They are just trying to live their lives, same as anyone else. That life doesn't look exactly like mine; my life doesn't match anyone else's. That's okay.

Something I wish we were currently better at grasping is that sometimes bad characters will do bad things. Not every villain has to be a rapist who eats baked babies, but they will be racists, bigots, assholes, and violent bastards you want to see lose. That doesn't mean I, the author, agree.

I want to scream this from the rooftops. I'm so tired of this "Girls mature faster" bullshit mythology being spewed even by intelligent people. And we all know why people WANT to believe it...yet people clutch their pearls about monsters like Epstein and Trump. It's ALL connected.
