Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday.

It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Liam was taken from Columbia Heights, the town just south of my high school in Fridley and just north of the Arts district in NE Minneapolis. I spent a lot of time with friends there after extracurriculars. News of his abduction completely broke my heart. I’m glad he’s home. #Comics4Liam

Absolutely incredible sequence from CNN.

For me, nothing captures the gritty 1970s NYC spirit of early Sesame Street better than the song "The Subway," which gets stuck in my head regularly. If you haven't heard it, it's a must.

Oh and along the same lines, Wicked also correctly identifies that you can’t beat a lie with a truth, you can only beat it with a better lie. The truth is intolerable to most people. You can’t have a Wicked Witch tell you the truth (the truth is what makes her Wicked!).

I do still kinda think the Wizard from Wicked, despite being crafted in the Bush era, is the most effective and accurate satire of Donald Trump yet conceived.

I keep thinking about this quote from Amos Lawrence about the 1854 Boston Slave Riot - “We went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.”

Bachelor stallion buddies in Salt Wells Creek; it seems to me that almost every wild horse community has that one stallion who is covered in scrapes and scars. He looked a little bit stiff and sore but was cheerfully tagging along with three younger bachelors. #photography #wildhorses #wildhorsepc

Same way we reeducated the South. Generations of sustained propaganda campaigns, national holidays, national monuments. Art that shows bigots being wrong and having the world move past them, sometimes leavened by laughter, sometimes not. It’s all after the fact now.
Does anyone have any idea how we break the echo chambers? No Trump voter in my family will ever know what actually happened to Alex Pretti or Renee Good. They will believe the officers were justified. They will watch Fox News and that will be the end of it.

the city was lit up tonight by a constellation of vigils.

it lit up the sky.
Vigils were held across the state to remember Alex Pretti after he was fatally shot by a federal agent Saturday in Minneapolis. Many also gathered to protest increased federal immigration enforcement happening in Minnesota.

I’m so sick of people throwing their hands up and saying abolishing ICE isn’t possible right now. Abolishing ICE is extremely popular and calls to do so will only continue to grow, meanwhile conservatives manage to do incredibly unpopular things all the time because nobody stops them
