NEW: As ICE's raids stoke fear, La Brigada De Oro has paused its Nashville SC matchday involvement. Co-founder Abel Acosta spoke about a harrowing reality.

“Our community is being terrorized right now. It’s in shambles. ... we’re being hunted. That’s how we feel.”

Truly atrocious piece, too. Screencapping so you don't have to give them the traffic.

Literally just an emotionless, robotic summary of the game sheet, with a note telling us that they couldn't even bother getting an editor to skim it

The race to the bottom is such garbage

The same dirging chord progression, at a minimum.

Hate it when you’re setting up for a curling shot from 20 yards out and Tyson Chandler shows up.

As someone whose time freelancing for MLSsoccer was a vital step in my career progression, and someone who generally gleans insight from the observations of others:

This sucks so hard.
MLS is using generative AI to write match recaps. Writers used to get paid freelance rates to do that. Hssssss.

Absolutely not personal, just a sitter of a joke when we record that day. 😂 thanks for the kind words.

Truly can not take that away from me. ✊

Some personal news: today is my final day at The Athletic, ending a 6+ year tenure on its staff.

Immensely fortunate to have covered this sport alongside some of the finest writers and editors in the industry. Will keep you posted as I figure out what’s next for my work!

This is (part of) how you make the Open Cup a big deal. By treating it...like a big deal. Lots of respect to Nashville SC for this.

On Sunday, Nashville SC presented the first championship trophy in the city's history to a crowd of nearly 4,000 fans, a milestone moment for the club and the sport of soccer in Tennessee.

Did a midweek mailbag and got the room to stretch my wings a bit and think philosophically about where all the No. 10s have gone.

Game finished 1-0, by the way. 90 minutes plus stoppage, and an over played over the only goal.

Hell of a show.

Not like anybody watches soccer for the games or anything, it’s just a way to pass time between advertising blocks.

love to have NWSL's broadcast partner CBS running a whole CarMax ad during a player substitution and proceed to miss an entire goal by KC Current

absolute amateur hour

The transition between Bradley-Jones and MMA would have hardly even registered. Greater involvement might've helped avoid a Couva scenario, too. Who knows!

The greatest number 8 in MLS history, certainly since the expansion era kicked off.

A centerpiece on four different MLS Cup winners - very few players of any position can claim that status, but nobody else did it at three different clubs.

BREAKING: Columbus Crew midfielder and MLS legend Darlington Nagbe is retiring after the 2025 MLS season, per sources.

Nagbe, 35, is a four-time MLS Cup winner (2015, 2018, 2020, 2023) with three clubs (Portland, Atlanta, Columbus).

One of MLS's best-ever midfielders 👏

Nah, all comps is a natural context for something like this.
