I work with declassified CIA files constantly for my research and I can’t remember the last time I came across something this heavily redacted

This is called 'manifesting' actually and it worked for me
Time for our annual viewing of the academia-themed Just in Time for Christmas, in which she gets cold called by the “Dean of Yale,” who wants to publish her dissertation because it will be a bestseller and offers a flyout for a job she didn’t apply for, and mystical William Shatner shakes things up.

14 two-year postdocs for academics of any nationality who cannot continue their research due to US politics. Do share if you know of such.
Post-doc positions:
"Academic freedom is under pressure today. This requires rescue havens of free research. ... [we] invite early career researchers, whose work is restricted due to political pressure in the USA..."

Wow what a great time to have just released a podcast episode on the history of organized opposition to women's rights. Jesus.
"Has feminism failed women brought to you by bank of america" is my MKULTRA sleeper agent activation phrase

NEW TGS EPISODE: A really thought-provoking conversation with Prof. Sophia Rosenfeld about the people who wanted women to be “just a girl” forever, and why the exact same rhetoric is being used today to undermine women’s rights.

I used to teach an undergrad historical methods class and their favorite day was always the one where we listen to @drmatthewsweet.bsky.social telling Naomi Wolf (live, on air on the BBC) that she misinterpreted her data and based her whole book around something that didn’t happen
You’ll never guess who else experienced ‘racism’ on the job market despite their unimpeachable academic credentials.

One of my beloved colleagues' fellowship is ending today and she gave me incense to burn when I have writers block, a poem to read, and a book she thought I would enjoy 🥺🥺🥺

The TGS team (that’s us in the photo!) had the cutest time ever at last night’s Patreon holiday soirée! I’m grateful to be a Creator Ambassador, and to be part of such a vibrant and supportive community of people who just want to help each other make cool sh*t. Also, the chocolates are delicious.

Posting up in front of Drew Brees's boring-ass sports-bar like it is in Fallujah is really a choice.

I keep thinking about that Compact article because I am so frustrated by its baseline premise, which is 'you should be able to get the job you want in the field you want' - a thing that all the groups being accused of succeeding unfairly (women, scholars of color etc) have known FOREVER is a fantasy

I hear there's discourse about race and employment in the US
December 17, 2025 at 1:48 PM
The problem! Is that! There are no jobs! For anybody!!!! So then the jobs that do exist hire people who can teach things they *don’t already have someone to teach* which often means things like race, which have been long-term blind spots in these departments! Use your brain!
This is 100% incorrect as the explanation for why someone obsessed with Roman *military* history is not being hired.

Stealing homes from people who are kidnapped by the state is 1) heinous and 2) not an actual housing policy
Vance: "Why have rents gone down for 4 consecutive months? Because we're starting to get those illegal aliens out of the USA. Those criminals, those gang members, those people that are taking homes that ought by right go the people in this room. It's simple economics."

SO I curated a playlist for Pocket Cast this year - themed around "academic experts making their research accessible" - and it turns out that it was their #1 most-listened-to list of the year? What the hell! How cool!

As a person who has been studying extreme far right ideologies for the last decade (and did a PhD on immigration) I find the entrance of “remigration” into the mainstream American political lexicon so profoundly disturbing
