LONG RAMBLING EMOTIONAL THREAD:

It's World AIDS Day. Since the Administration has decided to keep it quiet, I'd like to share my introduction to AIDS.

I grew up in Seattle. My mom remarried a man who had a brother who was a King County Sheriff's Deputy. His name was Terry and he was gay. 1/x

Writing doesn't just help you process your thoughts.

Neuroscientists have found it physically changes your brain in ways that build resilience and help you handle everyday stress and challenges.

Writing builds resilience by changing your brain, helping you face everyday challenges
Resilience is often presented as feats of bravery and endurance. But everyday practices like journaling, drafting a text or even writing a to-do list are manifestations of a capacity to adapt.

Leftism doesn't mean "I get other people's labor for free because I'm poor" and Capitalism isn't a synonym for "selling things." At this rate, online leftists are going to polarize themselves into fighting wars for Anthropic and OpenAI bc they've "nationalized art."
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Holy mackerel! AI data centers are even worse than we already knew. Nightmares right up and down the line.
Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.
AI’s water problem is worse than we thought
A new investigation reveals how Amazon is amplifying Oregon’s nitrate pollution crisis.

This is a great read. There is no way to know where this is all going, but the one thing we can be sure of is that Thiel and his creepy peers are not on our side.
NEW: Peter Thiel has blinked. Yesterday, I posted an article about the "Great AI Bubble". And today, we find out that he's bailed on the market.

Has he cut & run? Or is this some 3-D chess-type voodoo? Thoughts please.

i don't think that bush v. gore is the *worst* ruling in the history of the supreme court, but i do think it is the most openly *corrupt* ruling in its history. a real disgrace.

As horrible as the US has become on renewables thanks to Trump's policies, it is heartening to see that the renewable revolution charges ahead in the rest of the world. Pakistan, for example, went from no solar, to 30% of is energy from solar in just six years!

Seriously. The Blue Jays had a great series. Respect from a Dodgers fan.
Ditto, every word.
I'm sure no one wants to hear it from me but condolences to the Jays fans, an absolutely incredible season, a juggernaut of a team that deserved to win

This is crazy. The Douglas is all tech bros. Their worst crime in my experience is being unremittingly irritating.
Los Angeles, CA -

LAPD has commanded The Douglas, the nearest bar to Dodger Stadium to turn off the televisions. They are now calling unlawful assembly, though as far as I can tell the only signs of anything are people on the sidewalk. It is the 9th inning.

Really like seeing other people's water capture systems. Recently we re-routed our AC drain into a capture barrel. It produces between 30 and 50 gallons each week during the summer which goes directly into the vegetable garden.
Emptying the rain barrels out for the season. Disconnected them from the downspouts a couple of weeks ago, only got the dehumidifier water. 200 gallon system.

This is some of the best political news I've seen in a very long time.

There's a clear a way to end the Citizens United precedent by changing state incorporation laws - and now luminaries in both parties are forcing a vote on it in the 2026 election.
