Mike Johnson: "ICE is doing what ICE is designed to do"
Mike Johnson comes out against additional guardrails on ICE as Democrats call for it.

“I think there's a lot of Democrats playing games right now with national security and with law enforcement. And I think it's dangerous. Ice is doing what ice is designed to do by its very name.”

Folks, it’s bleak out there. But here is something awesome: the Community Support Fund paid $12,500 in bond to free two VAians from the horrors of detention this week. What is less awesome is that we have two new applications that we can’t fully fund because we are now out of money. Can you help?
I just supported my immigrant neighbors and you can too!

ICE's training dating back to before this admin:

-disguise their purpose for as long as possible
-lie their way into people's houses
-treat open garages as an invitation inside
-treat REAL IDs as if they aren't real proof of legal status

They're trained to bend the law, not respect rights.
just a little more training bro then ice will be okay, i swear just some more training bro i promise, we can reform this
Apparently ICE goons in multi-car caravans are circling Spanish immersion preschools in the city taunting and photographing the parents and neighbors who are patrolling the school perimeter to keep kids safe.

telling the secret police they have immunity to harm & kill citizens really lays bare the hollowness of decades of right-wing GOP screeching about encroaching Big Government - it was never a problem they had with government per se, just that it wasn't being used to harm the people they wanted to

A good question grounded in two interrelated U.S. problems: 1) a deeply individualistic society that has commodified or destroyed most forms of community & 2) an ideological inability to recognize fascist state capture bc it represents an escalation of existing systems of repression.
Why are Americans not doing anything?
Why do they think that a nifty sign is enough to fight this?
I don't get it.
