Places to sit on Nicollet Mall: 1. Peavey Plaza, lots of concrete 'benches", a few metal chairs, and the blue Adirondack chairs. One of my fave spots in the city.
I want everyone to know about Randy. We were separated, and he was my partner for 20+ years. I don't know really what to do with all of that; and I don't need to. I know that. If you know me, it is important that you know Randy, like I don't know how to say it more simply than that. So. 1/

just saw a cyclist with a safety vest on that had "Please Don't Run Me Over" printed on the back and I laughed, but in that what the fuck way. I want one.

If you drive Lyft or Uber, stop waiting at the bus stop to pick people up, esp at big venues. You are creating unsafe conditions. 1. The buses have to stop _in_ the lane of moving traffic, and they block you in. 2. People waiting have to cross in front of a car to get on the bus. 3. You are a jerk.

You should read this book. You should actually read everything by El Akkad.
Omar El Akkad's One Day, Everyone will have Always Been Against This has won the National Book Award. This is a deserving, necessary win. His words need to be on all of our minds and in all of our hearts.

"When it mattered, who sided with justice and who sided with power?"

Meet the new Data Director of ISAIAH! When you write sloppy on a commitment form, or use "[email protected]" on a registration form, you hurt his feelings.

lol; i just made a disgusted face when one of the speakers mentioned VAN; and ope, there's at least 2 VAN staffers on this call.

Yeah!
If you're in a position to be able to donate, please consider supporting our Give to the Max Day fundraiser.

Any amount helps as we work to scale our program in 2026. Our fleet is at least 4x larger than it was in spring of 2025, requiring more $ for secure bike storage, bike insurance & repairs.
Support the Mpls Cargo Bike Library on GiveMN
Park Tool is matching all donations up to $5,000! Help BikeMN reach our $15,000 goal.

oh my god organizers should not be doing data work on campaigns. just let them freaking organize. hire data staff, you guys. hire data staff who understand that data is more than VAN Admin and that it's about long-term power. [yes, i am on a call about data and organizing and tech and blahblah].

Re Waymo--we get a report of deaths each month at TAB; numbers of people killed on the road--car, bike, ped, motorcycle. I don't know enough about driverless cars to fully understand the safety implications, but there's simply more safety implications EVERY time there's more cars on the road.

"At that point, the “future of transportation” that “does not get drunk, tired or distracted” as the company describes it"...you know what else doesn't get drunk, tired, or distracted? Public transit. Also, jesus christ, let's just keep isolating ourselves in cars.

maybe one of the best pics that sums up randy; that isn't his face.

how the fuck do you write an obituary for someone? it all sounds so...trite. like how do you say "he would play his wife Bjork and watch her roll her eyes and when she would say 'Rush, yeah, they're the ones who sang Don't Stop Believin', right?' he would play along".

There have been reports of federal government activity in Ward Four this morning. As of right now, we believe the entities involved are FBI and DEA, not ICE. We’re continuing to work to get official confirmation of this, and to monitor the activity in the area closely. I’ll share more as I’m able.

Re Waymo in MN--idk what will happen at session in 2026, but if you are opposed to Waymo, it's gonna be a legislative fight.
Why Waymo is hiring lobbyists in Minnesota
A change in law would be needed to launch its driverless robotaxis here.

Am told by reliable source that they’re here to map local streets. (It’s Google, ya know.) Would assume they will conform with state law & have drivers. (Source couldn’t speak to this but I think it’s highly unlikely they’d be uncrewed, even if they are gathering intelligence for said development.)
Someone on the Minneapolis subreddit caught Waymos being delivered. We need the City Council need to ban the use of driverless cars. The technology isn't there. Our city cannot be a testing ground for 1.5 ton autonomous projectiles.

A lot of interesting information just in these excerpts:

✅ The city saved money by building its own restroom rather than outsourcing.
✅ City staff was able to experiment with design features to ensure success.
✅ Good staffing by effective ambassadors improved conduct.

Good job, team 👊

so i get that grief isn't linear and it feels spiky and soft and squishy and sad and furious and shame and embarrassment and i didn't know i could feel so much all at fucking once. fuck. and it a seems to hit on the bus, for some reason.

Really glad to see this; and especially glad that it's coming out of the Public Health & Safety Committee. It is a public health issue but it's also safety. Thank you CM @jchavezmpls.bsky.social and the rest of the committee! Please don't let it stay a report.
