“We did buy an oil pipeline… and what did we get?

“We have oil and gas companies that committed to net zero and then took their massive record, historic profits and gave them back in massive bonuses to their CEOs and executives, and through share buybacks largely to Americans”

Canada just signed a deal with Alberta to build a bitumen pipeline through northern BC.

ICYMI: My recent explainer for @thetyee.ca about BC's 50-year history of opposing oil transportation through the region — and the massive battle these governments just signed up for.

"Over a decade ago the community of Kitimat voted to oppose the Northern Gateway project. The Haisla Nation, who were firmly against that proposal at that time, still maintain that same position today”

The mayor of Kitimat and Chief of the Haisla met with Danielle Smith

Re: pipeline MOU between Alberta and Ottawa, B.C. Energy Minister Adrian Dix said yesterday having places like Alta and Sask discussing this without B.C. sort of like if David Eby, Wab Kinew and Doug Fort started making decisions about Alberta without Smith, and it likely wouldn’t go over well.

The thing about King is he's arguably done more to shape Canadian perceptions of Indigenous people than anyone else, from Dead Dog Cafe on CBC Radio to his Massey Lectures series to the Inconvenient Indian on countless syllabi and even in court decisions. That has to be interrogated
I’ve got an article out in the Star today about the Thomas King issue:
Thomas King’s admission he isn’t Indigenous is just the first step. This is what has to happen next

Just want to point out that "Indigenous Writes: A Guide to First Nations, Métis & Inuit Issues in Canada" has a new edition coming out in the spring of 2026 with a much expanded exploration of administrative definitions of Indigenous folks (and more).

But wtf does it mean when the most celebrated among "us" consistently get outed as fakes.

Like at this point it sort of seems like y'all fucking hate us, like you've got a subconscious lock on frauds because it's just more comfortable staring into a mirror with feathers hung from it.

The thing about the Thomas King news is that even based on his existing bio it seemed pretty obvious his claims to being Indigenous were pretty tenuous, especially once you learn more about community and citizenship beyond DNA
