Hi, new followers 👋 Here's what you can expect from me:

- BC politics reporting with a focus on environment and climate action issues
- irreverent, critical commentary (sometimes 🌶️)
- journalism as a passion and public service
- West Coast, best coast vibes
- books 📚💙

AND, most importantly ...
Been a minute since I was this enchanted by a book this quickly, wow!

I wonder if CTV made an attempt to speak to the 16 year old this story is qbout

They quote her parents and David Eby and John Rustad but there's no mention of whether they tried to talk to her

BC's democratic and electoral reform committee recommends requiring Elections BC to share voters' contact info (email, phone numbers) with political parties and candidates "under strict privacy guidelines"

To that I say: Ew 👎👎👎

I 1000% do not trust partisans with my personal contact info #bcpoli

Deleted previous post because division WAS called (looked like it was for another bill on the broadcast)

This passes first reading with 4 MLAs opposed (Warbus, Watt, Kooner, Chan)

With the fall session about to wrap and prorogation likely in the spring, it's unlikely the bill sees debate #bcpoli
Another One BC bill introduced by Tara Armstrong today

It would bar the province from purchasing goods or services from Chinese government controlled entities when alternative options exist. It would also require the government to publicly report on extent of its procurement from China #bcpolii

Another firm no on Smith's pipeline dream 🤷‍♀️

As I said, to the north coast, nothing has changed on the pipeline. Smith is going to have some work to do if she is going to change hearts and minds.

Here's Merran Smith's response to my question:

"It's 2025, and many other jurisdictions are doing the same, or even more than we are doing at this point ... I would say BC has a suite of policies that are good, they're good, and in order to be a leader, we need to do more." #bcpoli
Back in 2018, the BC government launched CleanBC, billing it as a "world-lleading climate plan"

Awards were won

Today, I asked the leads of the CleanBC review if BC still has a world-lleading climate plan

The answer, essentially, was no

Full quote coming soon #bcpoli

There's a chapter in the review titled, Squaring the circle of LNG expansion with climate security and economic diversification

It notes BC has nowhere near the electricity supply needed to electrify LNG production #bcpoli

Sure do love going to a policy-heavy press conference with no access to the documents being discussed

Makes for the most incisive questions 🤦‍♀️

Iiiiinteresting!

Some members of the Conservative caucus vote in favour of the bill, along with both One BC MLAs and Independent Jordan Kealy

NDP and Greens vote against, as does Conservative leader John Rustad and several members of his caucus, plus Independents Amelia Boultbee and Elenore Sturko
One BC's Dallas Brodie has another bill, this one would ban the flying of any flags on public property except the official national, provincial and municipal flags

She mentions Palestinian and transgender flags as examples her bill would ban

Division called #bcpoli

Most questions from press gallery reporters following this announcement are about the looming MOU between Alberta and the federal government on a new pipeline

Eby's rhetoric remains consistent, he reiterates how weird it is that BC has been pretty much shut out of the discussion #bcpoli
They're making changes to the Mental Health Act, Sec 31, subsection 1

Eby says the amendments will update outdated language to protect health care professionals from being sued for providing involuntary care

Bill will be tabled today with 9 sitting days left on the session #bcpoli
The premier and the health minister have a press conference at noon to talk about "strengthening access to involuntary care" 😐
November 24, 2025 at 8:40 PM
Asked for details, Eby describes current language in Sec 31 regarding deemed consent - the primary issue raised in the lawsuit - as "archaic"

Deemed consent has caused confusion, Eby says, because consent often isn't involved

The province still believes the challenge should be heard #bcpoli

The scale of power demand for projects on the North Coast is mindboggling

Just three could use +1,100 megawatts. That's almost all of Site C's capacity

Ksi Lisims = 600 MW
Cedar LNG = 214 MW
Galore Creek mine = 307 MW

Today, the largest electricity use in BC is Highland Valley copper at 130 MW

Live TV is less intimidating for me than filming video, something I haven't done since J-school 🫠

Deeply appreciated the help from my editor for this and our video producer putting it all together!

TL;DR Clearcutting remains a major part of BC's forestry industry. We just use "reserves" now 👇
B.C. says 1950s-style clear-cut logging isn’t happening anymore. Is that true? @sobittersosweet.bsky.social explains #clearcutlogging
