New: WaPo staff are fuming about the new AI personalized pods, noting they have errors like misattributing/inventing quotes, inserting commentary.

WaPo's standards editor privately called the mistakes "frustrating," another editor said "if we were serious we would pull this tool immediately."

they pretend to be data-driven but in the end they strike me as neo-schumers: they have in their heads a model of the Median American as kind of selfish and bigoted and, coincidentally, obsessed with exactly their own culture-war bugbears, and believe Trump remains an avatar of these Volk

New AP poll has Trump's approval on immigration down to an abysmal 38% as he rants psychotically about "shithole countries," smears Somalis, threatens large-scale denaturalization and remigration, and openly pines for more white immigrants and fewer nonwhite ones

BREAKING: Indiana Republicans FAILED to pass a new 9-0 congressional gerrymander after enough GOP senators sided with Dems. The GOP's 7-2 map stays in place.

Trump is trying to re-gerrymander maps nationwide. At least 11 Indiana Rs got death threats after he called for primaries—but it still failed

Anyway, if they thought that they would get a bill passed with this promise, that was indeed very dumb. But they were promised a vote and then they voted so that's at least the deal on its own terms.

i've thought of a dozen jokes to make here but, bluntly, this is just going to be deployed in an arbitrary fashion, with few opportunities to appeal decisions or understand what motivated them. it will further disadvantage groups already being profiled and contribute to a lot of pain.

This Disney-OpenAI deal is breaking my brain. It's not OpenAI paying for the right to use Disney characters, it's Disney paying THEM. All OpenAI does is give Disney access to its API so that they can use ChatGPT and Sora to replace their animators, other employees, and 3rd party contractors.

I still can’t believe the National Science Foundation is being forced to move out of their brand new, purpose-built building because the HUD secretary thought his building was ugly.

The Trump administration is destroying the best parts of this country, and it will take decades to rebuild.
NSF

- Forced reorg

- POs down ~ 40% (DRP, most rotators not renewed, retirements)

- Forced move (and we have to pack and clean) to a building with no furniture, little to no conference space for panels, inadequate 🛜, …)

I personally love the boxes they gave us for packing.

More research showing a thing the GC movement wishes to deny trans people, in this case respecting their name and pronouns, is a thing that improves mental health and could prevent a death by suicide, yet still they persist.
“Transgender and nonbinary youth (ages 13 to 24) whose pronouns are respected were 31 percent less likely to attempt suicide in the past year than those whose pronouns are not respected, according to a new report from The Trevor Project”
