My feelings about generative AI:

1) I'm highly skeptical it'll ever work

2) It's distracting from actual use cases for AI

3) We need a pause until it can be done without wrecking the environment or stealing IP

4) If it does have real potential then it shouldn't be controlled by ruthless people

The only reason there's an 'affordability' issue as the population ages is because the government refuses to tax rich people. The richest 350 families only pay 8% tax, and if Nicola Willis changed that, then the affordability problem goes away

I dont object to people being wealthy, owning a $10m holiday home

I object top them abusing their wealth so they contribute less

I object to them abusing their power so they get an ever larger slice rather than helping everyone else

The rest of us dont pull this kind of bs

Nicola Willis’s Debt Higher Than All 6 Years of Ardern Government
Current & planned debt will surpass Labour’s full term debt in less years. Willis also admitted Budget 2024 had a higher deficit than all of Grant Robertson’s bar Covid.

it genuinely galls me that TPM and the greens get called "too extreme" but the same is never said of NZ first and ACT, who are literal fascists.

For InternetNZ members who are going to vote for board candidates next week... If you are not aligned with the Free Speech Union's objectives, there is quite possibly and uphill battle.

They have quite sensibly (from their point of view) elected to nominate only two candidates. 1/3

OK, this is wild.

In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them.

It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*.

What the HELL?

When you’re the oppressed, you don’t get the luxury of ignorance. You study the system, the people, the power structures. Not by choice, by necessity.

Be honest about your own knowledge or lack of. We have a lot to offer each other if we just listen.

The restaurant chain Arby's employs more people than the entire US coal industry.

(H/T Maximilian Auffhammer and Carolyn Fischer for the comparison)

Coal mining is neither necessary nor good. Shut the whole industry down.

If you're worried about the miners, give them healthcare and job skills.
Trump: "One thing I learned about the coal miners -- that's what they want to do. You could give them a penthouse on 5th Avenue and a different kind of a job and they'd be unhappy. They want to mine coal. She was gonna put them in a high tech industry where you make little cell phones and things."
