Europe means press freedom and freedom of expression. It means open and inclusive democracy.

Regulation of big social media platforms is not about censorship, it’s about transparency and accountability, equally applied to all market operators irrespective of nationality.

Today I helped someone at the library who didn't know you could borrow items for free. She gave me her library card and $40 to pay for the books. Was delighted when I said everything is free to use.

I'd never encountered that before. I assumed people just knew library items were free and public.

On a call just now, Bari Weiss tells staff she held the CECOT story because it wasn’t ready & to advance a months-old story, they need "the principals" on record.

Yesterday, CBS reporter Sharyn Alfonsi warned if they can only do stories when government responds, it “gains control” over 60 Minutes.

"If the standard for airing a story becomes, 'the government must agree to be interviewed,' then the government effectively gains control over the 60 Minutes broadcast. We go from being an investigative powerhouse to a stenographer for the state."

Yet Black economists, who can really carry this conversation forward, are just not platformed. Like at all.

Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Many may not know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

This is part of the Trump administration’s Epstein Files release — 119 pages of Grand Jury testimony, fully redacted.

This is not transparency. This is a cover-up. Follow the law and release ALL of the damn files.

There's a word for that:

Accidentally planting the seeds of decades of racial resentment in the most exhausting people alive rather than tell them they're untalented is a marshmallow test for our age
It's especially common in the story of annoying leeches like Scott Adams, who tells a similar story, indicating that they corner people and demand an excuse that they'll accept without inspiring even more annoying interrogation.
longstanding theory on this is that people who know the applicant that they don't want to hire has racial resentment offer "wish i could've hired you, but they made me hire a black woman instead!" as a let-them-down-easy cope rather than admit to them that they just didn't want to hire them.
