"There’s no moral arc of the universe that bends towards greater freedom, but nor is there some natural nativism that rules it out," writes @polphilpod.bsky.social. A compelling call for liberals to lean into being pro-immigration. A must-read. www.liberalcurrents.com/we-need-to-g...

No US oil company should risk investing in Venezuela. Companies that take part in Trump's lawless takeover of Venezuela's resources should keep in mind that any American tax dollars they take to invest in a foreign country will be recovered by the next administration.

Speaker Emerita Pelosi: Congress has almost been abolished by the Republicans. The Speaker has surrendered his title to Trump, the Senate too. We're about affordability, about access to quality health care. That's what we should be talking about, not spending billions of dollars to go into Venezuela

Hmmm - Hobbes pointed out that no one is invulnerable and even the weak can kill the strong if they come with ‘forces united’.

We cannot forget who was complicit on January 6th.

Ted Cruz fanned the flames of insurrection.

Ken Paxton provoked the rioters before the assault.

John Cornyn refused to investigate the attack.

They have forfeited their right to represent us in our nation’s Capitol.

'People are dead now who would be alive if you had made different better choices' is not an easy thing to admit to yourself but if you don't hurry the fuck up and start maturing soon you're going to die a stupid blind entitled child.

And you should feel bad about that.

Your personal overwrought ultra-special justifications for doing it are not just irrelevant, they are symptomatic, they are the very moral fault you should be furiously trying to eradicate in yourself if you have even a hope of a prayer of a sliver of a chance of being considered a decent person.

Also worth wider attention. What you did in 2024 is who you are, we saw, we listened, now you've locked in consequences.
The most consequential political act these people will ever partake in was helping Donald Trump get elected a second time. Everything else - and I'm including becoming some kind of renunciant dedicated to selfless charity for the rest of their lives - will pale in insignificance compared to that.

Thought experiment: If you (general 'you') didn't vote for Donald Trump, but you (general) _did_ materially aid him by sabotaging his opponent, where do you (general) fit on the grand scale of responsibility for what's happening now?

Hint: the answer makes them feel really bad!

When I look at what Trump is doing to this country I remember that there's a new place opening down the street from me called "USA Donuts" that serves donuts, boba, & kolaches. They can try to enforce their bigotries all they want, but for their trouble they will find themselves grasping at air

This dumbass false dichotomy between military spending and social safety net spending (because "US military evul" idiocy) just won't fucking die. We can - and MUST - do both! A robust defense against fascism requires spending at home and abroad! That is literally how we beat fascism last time!
I had an old post on Twitter about this. The US spends about 18% of its GDP on the social safety net and 3.5% on military. Germany spends about 24-25% of its GDP on the social safety net and 2% on the military.

Our military spending is not why they can have nice things or why we don't.
