Decades ago, I supported mandatory helmet laws for people riding bikes. Then I was convinced by evidence and the bigger picture that such laws are actually counter-productive in many ways. This NZ article explains some.

It's interesting that we tolerate driving young people out to small towns and suburbs because previous generations rolled up the ladder behind them, when there are so many people living in cities who clearly hate them, that would fare very well outside them!
Told this story before but when being planned Ro$edale residents at top were in full freakout battle mode. When I defended it at a ravine discussion at the brickworks a red faced spitting mad resident came up to me after & screamed in my face. Thought he was going to punch me. NIMBYs are bananas.
