I feel particularly affected when other Jewish people across the world are massacred, as they were yesterday. It’s normal and reasonable. It’s equally normal and reasonable for the Palestinian diaspora to have felt similarly in the last 2 years when so many Palestinians have been massacred in Gaza.

In case it makes news: there was a World Zionist Org aliyah fair at a London synagogue today and Jewish pro-Palestine groups protested against it. Various right wing or pro-Israel groups are pretending they were just protesting a synagogue for the sake of it and that the protestors were not Jews.

About 14% of the UK population voted for Labour at the last general election. I know this includes children and adults not eligible to vote, but they're still suffering along with the rest of us.
It’s why I don’t like the lib “you voted for this!!!” pant shitting - consistently we are ruled by governments which have been put there by about 3/4 out of 10 voters - it’s institutional minoritarian rule
The problem with calling this is a "threat to democracy" is that this *is* democracy. A central problem with majoritarian representative democracy that no one ever wants to admit is that a plurality of people can vote to just do some truly heinous shit to minoritised groups, and that's democratic.

One of the (many) good things about sumo is it gives us an excuse to focus on something enjoyable for 90 days a year.
I’m going to move on to preparing this to become mostly a sumo account for the next two weeks since the basho is about to start and honestly I really, like everyone am justifiably stressed about the overall temperature of everything & I want to mostly be a joy to engage with online, not a drag.

Inspired by this post I made chili the same way last night and it was delicious. I used the dried chillies I already had from the Vietnamese shop, which are probably less suitable but still tasty.
Making some chili for dinner. Starting with dried chillies: Kashmiri, de arbol, ancho grande and guajillo. Chop the stalks off, get most of the seeds out, simmer them and some garlic cloves for 15 minutes in stock, and then blend them up
