This is the type of talk that Saddam Hussein used to justify invading Kuwait. It is dangerous, irresponsible and an embarrassment to both the United States and the party of George HW Bush.

Comparing the reported details of the "White House plan" on extending enhanced subsidies to the Suozzi et al bipartisan bill reminds me of students complaining about group work where one person waits for everyone else to share their work, then runs the draft through ChatGPT to fill in their parts.

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

I just want to underscore Josh's point that Dems can't be complacent. There is a lot of discontent burbling out there about the increasingly obvious problems in K-12 education, and -- unlike in the past -- Dems aren't prioritizing the issue or pushing big plans to improve schools.
I suspect the culture war is part of why polls show voters still trust Democrats more than GOP on schools—despite education falling as a top-tier Dem issue.

Hard to show parents you’ll focus on the ABCs when all you do is ban books etc

Still, Dems can’t be complacent on this.

There is no way to express how important Mark Mellman was to me and my organization. I simply couldn't have been as successful without him. My condolences to his family, friends, coworkers and the many people Mark touched in his life. (4/4)

I was sad to read this news today, but so proud to have been on Mark's team as we fought Republicans and battled Netanyahu in our quest to make our nation and the world a better place.

Here's a great tribute to Mark, from his induction into the AAPC Hall of fame: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfZp...

I have huge respect for Michelle Obama, but a plurality of the country disagrees! (And that was 9 years ago.) Clinton's voters, frustratingly, were simply located in the wrong states.

Also, the academic lit doesn't find a penalty for women candidates.

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

I think people are learning the wrong lesson from Elliott's post. My peace plan: everyone stops arguing over labels and instead runs surveys (like this one) with OPEN ENDED responses and we listen to what voters actually say.

And then we act on those feelings to win more elections :)
we can probably agree on the following interpretation

parties can increase their probability of winning future elections not only (or even primarily) by moving to the coherent center on ideological issues, but by moving down the axis of ideology-materialism and focusing attention on affordability

What's the complete sentence, though?

If you YIMBIfied the whole country:

— Average home size rises
— Faster household formation
— Slightly higher birthrates
— Rich people own more vacation houses
— Larger population share in high-amenity locations
— Higher wages & productivity

People would still spend a lot on housing though.

This is so so good from @gelliottmorris.com. Politicians will win tough elections when they LISTEN TO VOTERS and improve people's lives.

Pres Obama is singularly popular in politics. Not every Dem has his charisma, but let's learn from him:
• Healthcare #1 issue
• Anti-war
• All-of-above energy strategy
• Working-class jobs (Detroit bailout)
• Follow public on cultural topics (marriage equality, border)
