What's with the weird cell phone store subplot in No Other Choice? I liked the movie overall, but that's an entire section of the film that goes on too long for something that ultimately leads nowhere. I'm surprised to not see more reviews criticizing it.

This is a stirring rebuke to the part of the American government and the American electorate that has chosen to scorn and reject basic human decency. Never forget, never forgive.
It’s -9 degrees. Downtown Minneapolis is packed for the anti-ICE rally and the crowd keeps growing

Decided not to make Oscar predictions this year. I think I'll enjoy following the race more without worrying about which categories I didn't get right.

Lot of politicians can learn from how clear and unwavering Mamdani is here, but the big takeaway here is that the guy said "I am in support of abolishing ICE" and the audience of a THE VIEW taping immediately applauded. Don't need a clearer sign that it's a mainstream opinion you can campaign on.
Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

Thinking about the Pluribus finale, which was easily its best episode since the first. It adds a wrinkle to the main dynamic that raises a slew of possibilities I'm interested in seeing explored. But I still think they could've told this story in a fewer # of eps.

This is the other thing about all this. It's not like there's a big, substantive affordability platform Democrats have all agreed on that we're supposed to be choosing instead of immigration, Trump's abuses of power and all the rest. People are just saying the word "affordability" right now.
what bills to bring prices down do you have drafted up chuck

if you try to focus on Trump’s authoritarianism, Schumer will deflect and say people want us to focus on affordability. but when Zohran Mamdani made affordability the heart of his campaign Schumer refused to endorse him because they disagree about Israel. it’s all mealy mouthed bullshit.

Kudos to the Golden Globe producer who - immediately after a joke about famous people on the Epstein list - cuts to Bill Maher.

we did it! a perfectly structured democracy. it's got checks, it's got balances. this thing is made to last. there's only one weakness: bad guys. if somehow some bad guys who don't care about decorum got elected they could basically just tip the whole thing over. luckily such men are unelectable

One of my all-time favorite clips of Rob Reiner, from his Friars Club Roast in 2000, as he reads aloud Roger Ebert's infamous scathing review of his movie North. The man had an amazing sense of humor about himself. RIP.
