🚨The absence of media coverage of this natural disaster in Alaska, the lost/missing people, and the destruction of the aftermath is up to us to share. Please help if you can - even if it is just spreading awareness. There is no FEMA going to help them. 1/2

Hey, I’m from St. Louis originally - always ready to support the niche stuff!

I couldn’t believe this when I first saw it…now here’s a news source that I usually trust. What on earth?!?!?!

Mike Johnson said he would swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva "as soon as she wants." His office then backtracked — saying Johnson would only swear in the duly elected Grijalva once the government reopens. Grijalva won her special election more than two weeks ago.

Whether she's finding beauty amidst the horror, or the other way around, there's no one writing about the immensely important AND the deeply personal quite like @sarahkendzior.bsky.social.

And one of my personal heroes. A primatologist and a prime example of how to human. RIP, Dr. Jane Goodall.

Thanks for living up so supremely to your surname. What an inspiration. I'm glad I've lived when you were alive. Such a loss to our planet. Our hearts with her loved ones tonight. 🌍🐒🌏🦍🌎
(Quote and image credit: Jane Goodall Institute) Image of world renowned primatologist and humanitarian, Dr. Jane Goodall, sitting in the shade of trees wearing a green shirt and gazing upwards. The text for the quote by her says: "Somehow we must keep hope alive - a hope that we can find a way to educate all, alleviate poverty, assuage anger, and live in harmony with the environment, with animals, and with each other." RIP to my queen who died today at 91 years of age. October 1, 2025.

Democrats need to stand firm and fight for a funding bill that keeps families on their health care.

hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

Thank you for sharing this! A great assessment - for me it started slowly but builds to a damning indictment. Worth reading for all, especially my open-minded friends and colleagues…

YES! THIS on GenAI!

Please read this absolutely splendid piece of writing that had me cheering, a little bit weepy, and writing in the margins:

"An extraordinary amount of money is spent by the AI industry to ensure that acquiescence is the only plausible response. But marketing is not destiny."
Large Language Muddle | The Editors

Just received my flu shot and COVID vaccination! Grateful to our governor for ensuring that people in AZ don't need prescriptions, grateful to supermarket pharmacy for making these accessible to people. I'm old enough to also be grateful that we even HAVE such things as MMR and hepatitis vaccines.

These are sad times for media, for journalists, and for the First Amendment. "Stories are not being knocked out of the news: news is getting knocked out of the stories, because people are afraid to tell it." Fantastic piece by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social . sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/tunnel-vis...

Yes, I don't think that'll work, because the oligarchs leading the worst political initiatives have finances that exist outside the normal economy and even outside the economy of the 1%. Boycotts won't work as well when they WANT to destroy everything. Building new things is a better strategy now.

House Dems should drop a “Charlie Kirk Gun Safety Act” on the floor just to make the Republicans go on record voting against it.

I am excited about serving as a poll worker in our local election this fall!

People from all over are showing up for DC. This is not a moment. It’s a movement. We are united in our demands. We are all DC! #FreeDC

A fantastic new piece by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social I am a retired academic - while I personally loved my higher ed / science career, and admired its supposed ideals, even at the time it fell far short. And now there is almost nothing left of the opportunity and the idealism.

That’s despite fossil fuels getting nine times as much government consumption subsidies as renewables. (Global fossil fuel subsidies amounted to $620 billion in 2023, compared to $70 billion for renewables, according to the United Nations.)"
