I also loved Milbanks piece about his struggles to remove invasive buckthorn and creeper from his property. And formal apology to GW Bush for failing to acknowledge how ‘clearing brush’ on his Crawford TX ranch must have been a full time job (besides being President)
Opinion | I’m losing the battle against the brush. I’m not alone.

I cracked up at his story about how watching realtime GPS updates of box turtle movements was like being forced to observe the worlds dullest video game

I was a Wash Post subscriber for 21 years and cancelled my subscription in Sept. The absolutely lie riddled opinion by Jay Bhattacharya pushed me over the edge. How can a major paper publish such lies? But keep us posted on Dana Milbanks new series on life in rural VA

Exactly! Good communication skills require serious practice and effort. And academic models do not reward for that effort, especially when it comes at the expense of submitting grants, papers, teaching. I know of no tenure award that is based on excellent communication. It’s unfortunate, but reality

Glad to see Ray Davis get started. Cooks great, but a competent Davis is really really important

The Bills have allowed 299 yards in the first half to two players. Two.

What’s the point of a wide receiver whose strength is to make contested catches, who then always fails to make contested catches?

Hah, nice one! I forgot about that scene

The destruction of science and innovation in just a few short months is incredible. Unfortunately I fear for the damage we will face over the next 3+ years.

Holy crap. This is terrible.

The article states it's "not related to the current U.S. government shutdown". But of course it is: they are both connected by the GOP destroying everything good about this country from the top down and the bottom up.

Hawes can take advantage of this chance to showcase himself in a more prominent role. Knox is a cut candidate and a decision on Kincaids option is coming. If Hawes steps up, it might convince the Bills he is the TE to invest a future contract in, especially if Kincaid can’t stay healthy

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

That’s the unofficial #1 reason R01 grants are not funded. “Poor conceptualization of analytic plan. And excessive use of the term ‘herein in SA page’”

When preparing lunches in the morning, does anyone else find the kids swapping your apple for their apple, cause theirs “has a dent and mine doesn’t”?

Friday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the 11th lowest on record (JAXA data)

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between August and November by looking at the decadal average line positions.

As a public health scientist, we refer RFK Jr l’s statement as a ‘shotgun response.’ It is when a student who doesn’t know the answer on an exam, instead tries to toss out a collection of random and nonsensical scientific terms in hope that some will be correct by chance (hint: they never are)

The #Yankees gave up 23 runs in the first two games of a best of five. This has only happened one other time with the 1999 Red Sox, who incidentally came back to win. I’m not that optimistic.

Also seems like several plays where receivers aren’t even looking for a ball that’s thrown their way (Shavers, Palmer). Allen getting frustrated cause guys aren’t where he’s expecting them/needs them to be.

So these carrots were all planted from the same seeds, at the same time, in the same half of the plot, and watered the same way. Lots of variance going on.

You will be pleased to know that my wife is getting a masters in early childhood education at the U. And this is exactly how they say to develop a curriculum for very young. Each lesson builds vocabulary, but sparks follow-up thought and development in each kid based on their interest

Climate change won’t stop for a government shutdown. We’re following a developing late-season heatwave in the Midwest and Northeastern US. Temperatures are expected to be over 20F above normal today through early next week.

And will Universities stand as one against this policy? Or are all the provosts giving each other side eye to see who gives in first, so they can quickly follow suit?
