When we live through difficult times it can be easy to succumb to despair, to see nothing but darkness on the horizon. But one day, in happier times, songs will be sung of those who persevered. Strive to be sung about as one who brought hope, as one who carried light over that horizon.

I think we've been doing "to read" book piles all wrong this whole time. They are books you proportedly want to read but so often we despair that they never get smaller only larger.

But consider, if you ever did get to the end of your "to read" pile what would you do? 1/2

You will commit an act of bravery tomorrow. It may seem small, maybe even insignificant to you. It may be that nobody but you ever knows it happened. But you will do something that requires you to push past your fears, and you will know it. That is no small thing. Celebrate it.

I've said it before but I'll say it again. The internet has an unhealthy aversion to change of any kind. If you fear change in and of itself you aren't appreciating the moment enough. Change is inevitable. Some of it will be good some bad but without it we stagnate.

I didn’t realize that the “hi hungry, I’m dad” dad joke has a deeper meaning, which is “please politely ask me for what you actually want instead of just announcing a problem to me.”

“Dad, I’m hungry.”
“Hi hungry, I’m Dad.”
“🙄 Could you please make me something to eat?”
“And how hard was that??”

I know it's reductive and unhelpful to say that if you're upsetting bastards, you're probably doing ok, but in the case of Greta Thunberg in recent hours (and always tbh) she's only upsetting people you should set your moral barometer to oppose.

I had lovely experiences with @shortwavebooks.bsky.social , @infestedpublishing.bsky.social , and @cateyepress.bsky.social , among others. And their catalogues speak for themselves.
What are some of your favorite indie horror or Weird fiction presses you think need more attention? Doesn't matter if they're well established or just starting, so long as they've published some rad stuff.

Addressing climate change is not a “pass/fail” scenario. It is a process of mitigating severity that will happen in our lifetimes.

Saying “it’s over, do whatever you want” is both foolhardy and literally incorrect.

We can always make a difference — and will continue to do so.

Lukewarm take but the reason Andor is more popular with a certain vocal section of the Star Wars community than an 8 button wirelees mouse with tits is that its the first piece of Star Wars media in a while whose target audience is older than 12 and most of the fandom is these days. #Andor

Sisyphean [sis-uh-FEE-uhn]
(adj.)

- Relating to Sisyphus, king of ancient Corinth.

Used in a sentence:

Some of the first art humanity made was pornographic. The oldest stories that are still told are sexual.

It is Shamhat, a sacred prostitute, who civilizes Enkidu in the epic of Gilgamesh.

Sex work is ancient. Sex is fundamentally human. It's no 'filthier' than any other human pursuit or endeavor.

It's trans day of visibility! Transness has been made very scarily visible over the last few years but through a warped and harmful filter of politics and media. Today, I hope that visibility might be more human and that cis allies might be inspired to do something about it.

The thing about social security is that if it is destroyed, it just never comes back.

It requires trusting in the stability of government for the next 50+ years, who would possibly pay into a system that for all they know will just get looted again by private equity in a few years
