Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.
Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

Hey folks, as news of Watson's demise spreads, please don't set aside his weighty legacy of misogyny and racism. He was truly among the worst of us. www.vox.com/2019/1/15/18...
DNA scientist James Watson has a remarkably long history of sexist, racist public comments
“People say it would be terrible if we made all girls pretty,” he said in 2003. “I think it would be great.”

The haters said they couldn't do it. And they were right. Honestly, great call from the haters.
NEW: The End of the Line: the centrepiece of Saudi Arabia’s Neom gigaproject - a 500m tall, 170km long wall-like building intended ultimately to house 9 million people - can’t get out of the ground, say more than 20 former Neom architects, engineers and senior executives.

"An ethos, you say? Well that's another matter entirely, case dismissed!"
I suppose it was only a matter of time, once judges decided that transphobia was protected under the Equality Act, before they decided that full blown fascism was (www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crim...).

It is my deeply held view that the mayorship of my city is not a democraticallly elected position, nor one that comes with much power. (I do vote in local elections, though, and to my lasting credit, never for A Cuomo.)
Starting tomorrow, every major news organization will be publishing thinkpieces saying that Zohran Mamdani's victory isn't signficant, and even more crucially, that it couldn't happen in a city like yours.
They're wrong. It is important. And every city could have this.

I think Sudan might shoot up the news agenda somewhat if two US Presidents and two British PMs e.g. announced we were sending the RSF more machine guns and missiles to kill more civilians, then told the press everyone protesting against it was a traitor extremist and sent the cops to arrest them.

As the Butthole Surfers remarked, it's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't done, and we for one bitterly regret that we probably never got around to wishing D Cheney harm on this website before his sadly belated death. Lesson learned!

Oligo-capitalism increasingly sees journalism as a threat and uses uh capital to neutralise it
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I'm on a delay of apparently 12 minutes but that was an astonishingly good play from the lad, and not the first in this game
It really is insane how good a fielder Vladdy is. Like his hitting is obviously the thing he's famous for but god he's so good at what he does at first.
