Update: I made it through! My experience wasn't even too grim although I did spend every minute I was not helping someone scooping up piles of misplaced stuff and when I left the whole place had a distinct air of ravagement.
I do not want to go to work on the busiest retail shopping day of the year, I do not want to.

The #1 movie when you were ten years old is how your 2026 is going to go.

...a bit on the nose (another variant had "the machines are taking over," and like COME ON).

Incredible words.

Walked into my job today, scooped up a pair of underpants on a hanger from the floor (we do not sell underpants), turned and handed them to my manager. And then we were so busy I did not get to have any other interaction with that manager. In case you're wondering how retail is going.

I’m looking for 100% Filipino people who are willing to submit a cheek swab test in hopes for a genetic match to my aunt, who is battling blood cancer. The registry for stem cells doesn’t have many Filipino people in it, and joining it could help many. Please share/reach out to me!

Can't we just lock Brad Bradford and Stephen Holyday in a closet and let them battle it out for the title of Smuggest Asshole? Loser is vanquished from city council. Yes, we'd still have one of them, which is a flaw in this plan, I know.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

we raised $110k for trans kids & $31k for immigrant kids almost all through bsky! There is NO WAY anything i did in meatspace could have made that happen. We changed lives, & we did it through community and art and the power of the internet (& the our flag means death fandom, cast, & crew)!!
btw i don't agree with folks who say posting here doesn't matter because every time i help organize an event, people show up in real life & tell me they heard about it here on bluesky

it absolutely matters if you make a habit of organizing & sharing practical suggestions of stuff to actually do

Heartbreaking and horrifying to go to bed reading about the mass shooting at Brown University and wake up to read about the mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. Thinking of the victims, their loved ones, and those affected by the hate that drove these attacks.

Super loved making this into a 1.5 hour commute to go work retail today. Delightful.

(I will say that my customers were actually amazing, lots of wry sympathetic joking and mutual encouragement. Sincerely appreciated the people today.)
A> when subway is closed you really see how much work it does. Sardine buses. Imagine everyone in cars.
B> it’s bananas the TTC scheduled TWO separate downtown subway closures the 2nd weekend before Xmas. Busiest time. If not emergency why not wait till January doldrums? Punishing organization.

“I cannot afford to get sick.”

Doing a Tom Hanks is about planning. Identify high-risk moments. Reduce exposure. Protect the events you don’t want to miss.

Vaccinations work. Masks work. Preventing inhalation of viruses works.

This is embarrassing.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) paid $18 million for a chatbot named Charlie, which the auditor general reported gave her team the wrong answer 66% of the time.

The chatbot's responses were found to be brief and lacking context, with only 2 out of 6 questions answered accurately.

Please stay home if you’re feeling sick.

If you absolutely can’t stay home, wear a mask.

There are people who can’t afford to get sick. People without paid time off, people who are disabled or immune compromised, people who are caregivers.
