If it's just status quo bias, that's a problem, but I think there can be a value in skepticism about change, because we also have difficulty understanding very complex systems and the way their parts are interrelated.

Found out a younger colleague died yesterday. He was the brightest light and an inspiration to students. A beautiful man in every way. Talked to him last spring when he was teaching a class on the sociology of dying and he was both resigned and joyful: "I'm living what I'm teaching!"
But, fuck!
