I see a lot of people posting about supporting local businesses, local food banks, etc. I completely agree, but will add: If your city has any sort of local arts scene, throw them some $. Buy some art. See a local theater production. Tip your hometown drag queen.

there's an interesting idea threaded through the last three or four Jurassic Park movies: mega corporations are convinced cloning dinosaurs is worth a huge amount of money somehow but it never ever pans out

i am always blown away by just how far ahead of its time DS9 was. really some of the most remarkable feats of writing in TV history. and the kind of show that could only have worked with 30+ episode seasons

an easy way to test fiber content is to burn it. pure natural fibers will burn clean, resulting in a white or light grey smoke. materials with synthetics, such as polyester, will release black smoke.
