Why is Israel declaring "victory" in Gaza when many of its aims were not met? @peterbeinart.bsky.social writes that the real goal is the same as it has been for decades: maximum land, minimum Palestinians. Trump's ceasefire plan is another step in that direction.

What Israeli “Victory” Looks Like
The Trump deal doesn’t destroy Hamas but it does further Palestinian dispossession.

Investors are betting big bucks on the idea that AI will create an explosion of leisure time...e.g. it was a key part of the public rationale for the massive $55bn takeover of video games maker Electronic Arts. But are they right?? (short thread linked to my column today www.ft.com/content/4011...)

Ugh, this one hurts.

3 classic albums. No skips. Love songs. Liberation songs. Sensual songs. Fun songs. Black ass music. 51 is too young. D'Angelo can't be gone.

Think this is a bit cynical from Hinds (especially bc she’s not young). She’d better hope she stays in the squad as I can’t imagine Jamaica will be of a mind to take her back.

It definitely can, as it did a year ago. But it also needs to quickly. Agree a seeming lack of clarity is probably underpinning everything not right at the moment.
tokenbg.bsky.social
That's true. You can always look for reasons to rely on a small group of players if you're so inclined. Also wondering if she was stung by making so many changes for Villa last season, and it didn't work out at all?
tokenbg.bsky.social
It def can if it looks like you're not likely to play much at all. And bc of the bad start, I suspect Renee is less likely to throw other players in until the results stabilise, v similar to last season.
tokenbg.bsky.social
Tbf to Chelsea, those signing followed players who got ACL injuries. But we'll likely have to decide on either a new 1st choice LCB in Jan/next summer. Or a clear backup for that position, whether it's a new signing or someone we already have.
tokenbg.bsky.social
I'm not too worried re Codi (especially this early) as I never saw her playing much unless there's injuries. I was expecting Lotte to feature a bit more. But I think the overall question is we're not seeing much clarity in the roles for quiet a few players.
tokenbg.bsky.social
My best guess is Katie did so well in pre-season training that she pushed herself to the front of the queue sans Leah. That can happen - a player coming through quicker than expected. We'd probably need to shed at least 1 CB if we were looking at another.
tokenbg.bsky.social
Oh, some of it has made limited sense to me. But if there’s not a change next month, they’re may not be at all. And that will come back to hurt us
tokenbg.bsky.social
I'm with you on that. I know Renee (a bit like Jonas) sometimes alludes to managing the squad block to block. New block after the internationals, so if we get a change in approach, I would hope it comes then.
tokenbg.bsky.social
Yeah, and apart from anything, what are we realistically going to achieve if only 12-15 players are playing with any regularity? Part of why I’m confident United won’t sustain this current pace is bc Skinner has access to only so many players.
tokenbg.bsky.social
Yeah, I definitely see what you're saying. While a mass change of the XI is usually counterproductive, I can definitely see scope for 4-5 changes. Lotte, KCC, Vic, Beth and Chloe (if she's fit)

It felt a "How about starting me vs Benfica?" display. Thought she was v good when coming on. Think it probably helped us navigate the closing minutes fairly comfortably as she seemed to help us get the ball up the pitch and away from our goal.
