A lot of 12 year olds are going to learn the phrase "op sec" in the next few years.

"Are those burner shoes?"
"I didn't think --"
"You're not SUPPOSED to fucking THINK, Skylar, you're supposed to follow FUCKING PROTOCOL."
“Inside the heel of the shoe, a small insert can be lifted to reveal the compartment. Then, parents can track the location of their child — or, at least their child’s shoes.”

A lovely @lawgunsmoney.bsky.social reader won an auction for a review by me, and requested Katherine Addison's The Goblin Emperor. It was a delight to return to this novel with a critical eye, to talk about the things that make it special & set it apart. www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2025/07/the-...

imagine becoming an adult catholic convert and finally getting to meet the pope and you're all excited like it's your own personal super bowl. but the pope spends the meeting calling you an asshole, and then the next day he dies and everybody says you're the one who killed him. incredible stuff

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.

Don't trust "AI" and also realize that the push to have "AI" in everything happened because some tech people wanted to get rich and other tech people didn't want others to get rich without them, and now they've all spent too much money on a bad product and are trying to scramble out of the hole.
Columbia Journalism Review tested eight generative AI search tools and found their answers were wrong 60% of the time, and the paid ones actually fared worse than the free ones.

Meanwhile, millions of people trust the way they present total bullshit with confident language.
AI search engines cite incorrect sources at an alarming 60% rate, study says
CJR study shows AI search services misinform users and ignore publisher exclusion requests.

Hey, so if you’d rather just see most recent replies to skeets it’s pretty easy: you’ll go to Content and Media and change the setting back to “Newest replies first," because it defaults to this new “hotness” thing.

📢 1.95 is rolling out now (2/6)

With this release, you can now display replies by “hotness,” which weights liked replies that are more recent more heavily.

Slipping “hey it’s that guy!” into as many conversations as I can as a shibboleth to find other former TWoP fans.
