the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

The Coca-Cola Freestyle machine is an echo chamber. Good luck finding nuanced debates about hot button issues on that touch screen. It’s just soda names and flavored syrups

finally some good fucking news

I know protesting this regime sometimes feels like it achieves nothing, but these people are deeply insecure losers. the idea that someone in the world thinks they suck -- let alone large numbers of people -- grinds at their thin-skinned souls.

given that crypto is fake and unregulated, do insider trading regulations even apply?

Sora 2 is exorbitantly expensive to run -- like OpenAI is projected to LOSE $14,000,000,000 next year.

but if your goal is to harvest immutable biometric data and employ the GPUs you have hoarded for mass surveillance and face recognition, it's a completely logical step
thedansimonson.bsky.social
remember, Ellison is part of the AI triad -- he runs Oracle, who OpenAI rents servers from.

my best guess for the biometric harvesting is that part of the abort plan is to build that panopticon.
thedansimonson.bsky.social
Gave a talk on AI hype Friday, but one of the things I learned during was that Sora 2 collects biometric data on its participants to generate videos. You basically scan your face.

OpenAI has been hungry for biometric data for a while, or at least Sam Altman has. why? 1/

another classic of the genre "if you want free college and healthcare just join army" yea, if everyone did that, guess what they would stop offering to get everyone to join

one of my favorite things about these "why don't everyone do exactly what I do for a living" hacks is that, if everyone did that, the job wouldn't be lucrative anymore. that's supply and demand; that's how capitalism works.

The “Starship Troopers” outcome seemed pretty stupid when I was reading the book, but it seems like one of the better outcomes at this point. I’ll take “global military junta” over “theocratic psychos”

I remember having a discussion with someone who simply could not wrap their head around the idea that an NFT has no legal standing whatsoever, nor any content.

It’s just a short string attached to a blockchain.

The crash is going to be brutal when it comes.

Robinhood says "it might offer "tokenized" equity in OpenAI. By "tokenized," Business Insider reports, Robinhood means "blockchain-enabled representations of securities like stocks." In reality, they have no connection to OpenAI equity whatsoever."

they're coming through wardrobes, folks, and they're coming over through portals on train platforms and schoolyard walls, and by using rings of various colors, and they're saying "oh bother" and "by Jove" and they're taking over narnia folks and eating all the turkish delight, they eat the delight

How will this go? It’ll go great. Everyone will respect them, institutions protected, etc.

Anyone who bends the knee will simply get picked up by the heel, flipped upside down, and shaken until every dime falls from their pockets.

If your organization is about "fighting crime", then you better make sure there's always some crime to go fight. Otherwise, why would anybody need you? To police, the idea of crime going down is like a company hearing they're going to lose the supply of resources that keep them in business.

My hunch here—and not exclusive to the points you made, which are good—is that syntactic attachment is a more robust channel than coreference.

Coref is, merely and disturbingly, an implicature. It can be canceled.

Stephen Miller is murdering Venezuelans and Colombians in cold blood bc he believes it helps his propaganda campaign to paint Latinos as dangerous.

Stephen Miller views the air strikes as an opportunity to paint immigrants as a dangerous menace, according to one of the White House officials.
