One of my favorite genres of art is "a huge asshole making fun of a way bigger asshole" so I'm immediately enjoying the Netflix series about Diddy funded by 50 cent

Essentially all of capital and world governments are lined up eagerly to push every possible version of this technology at us but you're mad at people on social media who have no impact on this whatsoever because you've bought industry advertising.
We could save soooo many lives but people are so caught up in their reactionary moral panic nonsense

God help me, I'm gonna actually defend "AI" a bit here: this stuff is like tracer dye revealing how corrupt and decrepit so many of our institutional processes already were long before this garbage came along.
"Runctitiononal features"? "Medical fymblal"? "1 Tol Line storee"? This gets worse the longer you look at it. But it's got to be good, because it was published in Nature Scientific Reports last week: www.nature.com/articles/s41... h/t @asa.tsbalans.se

It's a shame that the sex crimes will overshadow Larry Summers' true legacy of being consistently wrong about the economy.
Not sure if it's journalistic best practice to frame "proof of involvement in a decades-long ring of powerful child rapists" as "the greatest challenge to his legacy."

Unless you're trying to actively help him overcome it, I think it should rightly be framed as the final word on his legacy.

I've started the laborious process of migrating off the Google ecosystem. Search is easier to replace than ever with AI slop clogging up results, email is interestingly the more difficult lift atm, trying out Tuta. Keeping up a bsky, probably adding a Mastodon account at some point...

also "modernism",
"yes, I like things how they are now"
“realism” is such a funny descriptor for a worldview/art movement/etc. “what’s up, i believe in things that i think are true”

They're treating the US government like a throwaway run in a Paradox game, down to declaring a no-CB war
Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout

one of the many reasons i will forever declare:

software developing is not engineering

it's just not. sorry not sorry.

(you CAN approach it with an engineering mindset (and you should) but it can never BE engineering because it's too squishy.)
Oath of the Engineer: "In my profession I take deep pride. To it I owe solemn obligations. ... I shall participate in none but honest enterprises. ... In the performance of duty, and in fidelity to my profession, I shall give the utmost."
