No, the Elon of Mars hasn’t driven me off the Service-Formerly-Known-as-Twitter — I was there before him dammit! But I’m here too now. However I will generally prefer to do primary posts to my Mastodon since, well, it’s MINE.

ATproto: The Enshittification Killswitch That Enables Resonant Computing
Disclosure: I'm on the board of Bluesky, which was inspired by my "Protocols, Not Platforms" paper. But this post isn't about Bluesky the app. It's about the underlying protocol and what it enables for anyone who wants to build technology (even competitive to Bluesky) that actually respects users. Last month, I helped release the Resonant Computing Manifesto, which laid out a vision for technology that empowers users rather than extracting from them.

we really need to start calling them chemical weapons, because "tear gas" sounds cutesy. "aww it makes you cry!" instead of "it makes you panic and disoriented and fucks up your menstrual cycle and might make you miscarry"
Are any politicians running on a platform of finally banning teargas? Like, that shit is banned for use in warfare but it seems like everyone is okay with it being lobbed at citizens on a regular basis.

Now is the time for democrats to introduce a bill for comprehensive immigration reform.

Do they lack the skill to do this? Change the discussion to reform.

Own fixing it.

@schumer.senate.gov time to take the wheel on the issue.

And while kinda hard to boycott US as someone living there, I’m trying to buy more Canadian stuff (most of which was never on my radar). Just ordered some Stanfield’s winter gear, made in Truro NS where some of my ancestors are from.
If you haven’t done so already, please boycott US products as much as possible and not travel there (and encourage your friends/family to do the same). The Trump regime has been repeatedly threatening 🇨🇦 too, and so in return Canadians have inflicted severe financial pain by cutting travel + imports.
Elbows up in 2025: How a year of Canadian boycotts on U.S. products played out | CBC News
Here are a few of the ways Canadians tried to put more power behind their purchase and travel choices in 2025 — and how those decisions may have impacted the U.S. economy.

Calling what is happening “treason,” as opposed to “state terror,” or “authoritarianism,” or any other label is not mere semantics. Treason is explicitly condemned in the Constitution & imposes legal consequences for both high officials who commit it and on Congressmembers who are dutybound to act.

Wow. They even got Amy Klobuchar to stop talking about prices and affordability.
Klobuchar: "Somehow 50,000 peaceful protesters in 10 below weather were able to march without any problems, and then the next day half a dozen ICE and CBP agents couldn't handle a guy with a cell phone taking video of them and shot him. I think it's pretty obvious what's going on here."

Exactly this. We need to work to rollback as much as possible to the pre-9/11 state. It was clearly a mistake then to anyone not blinded by the terror of that time and it should be clearly one now to everyone experiencing the terror in this time.
Counter proposal: DHS needs to be dismantled completely. Customs, immigration, asylum/refugee all back to State. FEMA cabinet level because natural disasters is the core function of government in the melting 21st century. Defund all the DHS security state agencies entirely.
Congress is going to respond with some "sensitivity training" level bandaid solution.

What needs to happen is for ICE to be removed from the Department of Homeland Security, sent back to the Justice Department and stripped of its national security mandate. Bare minimum.
