Hey BCI + BC Public Sector Pensions Plans! In March 2022 you agreed to divest👇 from Russian firms. How about taking the next step and dropping the awful Western firms that continue business in/with 🇷🇺? Their taxes + tech fuel the Kremlin’s genocidal war on 🇺🇦! The so-called "peace deal" published last week is already revealed as a web of Russian deceit.

One of its objectives is clearly to derail the initiative to use frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine.

Europe must not fail Ukraine now.

Belgium should remember the sacrifices made for its freedom.

Indeed. The Trump regime is a giant Russian asset. Such a tragedy for our ally Ukraine - and the rest of the free world - that the US has effectively switched sides at this moment of maximum peril.
Completely disgraceful, but hardly surprising that the Trump regime venerates other moral degenerates and criminals. It’s left now to the remaining democracies like 🇨🇦 + 🇪🇺 to redouble our efforts to help democratic 🇺🇦 defeat fascist 🇷🇺. That includes MUCH tougher sanctions. #MakeRussiaSmallAgain
Ukraine is not for sale. 🇺🇦

For today’s Trump/Zelenskyy/EU meeting, it's not “land gifts” that will stop Putin’s brutal military.
For a just peace, only crushing sanctions on Russian oil & gas will dry up his war chest!

Guess BC should demand that Alberta and Saskatchewan not stand in the way as we build some massive wind farms in Canada’s prairies. After all, it‘s the best place to get our wind energy to market.

Your BONUS daily reminder that fascist Russia depends on oil + gas + coal revenue to bankroll its criminal war of aggression against our ally Ukraine! Time for all democracies to immediately close sanctions loopholes and 🛑 buying the Kremlin’s bloody exports!
#FossilFuelsFundFascists
While Russia launches drones and missiles at our cities, Europe continues buying Russian #LNG, sending €938M to the Kremlin's war chest in October alone, helping finance the war that destroys our homes and kills our people. #Europe must close the loopholes and impose full energy #sanctions now.

If EU countries (looking at you, 🇫🇷+🇧🇪+🇪🇸+🇳🇱), the UK, Australia and other democracies are truly serious about helping our ally Ukraine, they’d stop importing huge quantities of fossil oil + gas from fascist Russia.
@razomwestand.bsky.social
Russia’s war in Ukraine continues to kill civilians, fueled by revenue from fossil fuels. #TotalEnergies still holds stakes in Novatek & Yamal LNG. EU countries and the UK must ban all contracts with Russian-linked companies to ensure energy policies support Ukraine, not the war.

Hi @turnbullwhitby.bsky.social - thanks for your support for Ukraine! Given that, and your post above, thought you’d be interested to know Toyota seems to be trying to resume business in fascist Russia! 👇 Might want to let Toyota’s leadership in Canada know how awful that is.
Toyota held a secret meeting with Russian dealers and is lobbying to bring its cars into the country via China, Russian media reported.

Given the ongoing Russia's war on Ukraine, we strongly urge Toyota to reaffirm its stance on this issue to alleviate concerns and provide clarity on its position.

Well fascist Russia is actually incredibly fragile already, and if EU members and other democracies closed sanctions loopholes + stopped importing its fossil fuels, it wouldn’t have the $$ to keep brutalizing our ally Ukraine.
Fascist Russia is much more fragile than its cowardly apologists admit - its epic war losses are accelerating a demographic death-spiral and economic collapse.👇 So it’s incredibly important that 🇨🇦 + allies seize the moment to better help 🇺🇦 by tightening sanctions and hastening Moscow’s defeat.

… Also, Ukraine’s excellent drone-enforced sanctions on fascist Russia’s oil + gas infrastructure, including putting upwards of 20% of refinery capacity offline, is having huge impact on exports and tax revenue to the Kremlin. Analysis below shows progress + need for more sanctions.

Several things true at once: accumulating web of sanctions (including secondary sanctions on 🇮🇳 + 🇨🇳) ARE having impacts across Russian economy; West has been too slow to implement crushing sanctions + much more still to do; internal strains of war on economy + society are deep, broad, and growing.
Cracks In Russia’s War Economy
After nearly four years of fiscal overreach caused by injecting trillions of rubles into the Russian economy, the Kremlin can no longer disguise its distress.

The MOU is drafted like Alberta and Canada are the parents, and the other provinces and First Nations are the kids in the back seat.
The real problem with this Pipeline MOU, is that it's incredibly divisive.

Read it through this lens: it makes Canada and Alberta equal partners, and the rest of Canada (other provinces and First Nations) lesser players.

Look at BSKY tonight and see how much fighting it's already lead to.
This is not a good take. Carney's move signals to the rest of Canada, and the world, that it's OK to keep building more fossil fuel projects.
Other countries will use this to justify doing the same.

Our children are watching, to see if we care about their futures. Do we?

Why should you care about how BC Investment Management Corporation (BCI) invests? Perhaps not a binary choice, though. The Nordics know that many things that boost defence also make society more resilient to other shocks (climate, pandemic, economic, etc). So 🇫🇮 approach to comprehensive security explicitly includes strong social benefits, progressive taxation, SAR training, etc.
Mere months ago, the following words would have seemed wildly hyperbolic: Canada🇨🇦 must strengthen its defences vs. the US, fast. Our democracy + sovereignty is in serious jeopardy. We only have a few months to get going.
