Ok so if you're still using Spotify I highly suggest you stop
(Personally I use Qobuz for streaming convenience but buy the mp3 from bandcamp if possible and from retailers if not)
Bandcamp has a strong anti ai policy and is committed to artists
In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

The official language of Jamaica is....wait for it.... English.

These performances truly are targeted only at the stupidest people alive
Eric Trump: "As I showing up to the studio, there was an older Jamaican man who came up to me in very broken English and said, 'Mr Trump, I'm very sorry about Charlie Kirk. He was an amazing Christian. I am Charlie Kirk.'"

Two months ago, I had no fucking idea who Kirk was. Then I read his soundbite about Taylor Swift and thought, 'He seems like a cunt.'

I found myself on the fault line between media-savvy kids (who'd heard of him) and the old people who take their information from the right-wing media - and hadn't!

I’m stopping. I’m not participating in anymore conversations about it. I’m just watching, listening, thinking, shaking my head, and loosely planning.

I’m holding on to my humanity, clarity, courage and voice.

Re the "march" in London. For contrast...in2022 aprx 10,000 people marched peacefully & inclusively for "yes cymru" in Cardiff so ABT 0.33% of Welsh 3m population....0.33% of England's 58m pop is abt 200k people. So circa 100k, a lot less turned out in London relative to pop.

Overheard a bunch of Faragists discussing Kirk in the pub; according to one of them, 'he wasn't a racist'. I suppose if you spend all your time breathing that particular atmosphere, you take it for granted that everyone else breathes it just the way you do.

In a nutshell, why media fails to support Palestinian journalists, oppose genocide, oppose Farage, oppose the far right, and all the other things…

Because the establishment-funded media does not employ anyone who questions the establishment and the status quo.

Chomsky nails it.
Happy 96th birthday Noam Chomsky!

To celebrate, here he is giving Andrew Marr a lesson in how media bias works

The Cardiff Fine Art and Industrial Exhibition of 1896

Our blog post today looks at a recently completed volunteer project. The project examined the records of the Cardiff Exhibition of 1896, throwing light on an amazing but often overlooked event in Cardiff’s history.

Britain really has a fine sense of irony. The latest newsletter from the National Archives celebrates 200 years of the railway industry and includes highlights of their collections. Underneath, there's a warning that physical access may be disrupted because of industrial action on the railways.

This book is coming out in November and I'm super proud of it.

Some of the best character work I've ever done, a ripping plot (once it builds up momentum), and a grab bag of my various ideas and obsessions.

Magical bird familiars. Overlapping, conflicting magic systems. Lotsa weird little guys.
