Hi all. Here’s a bit of an introduction to who I am.

I’m an English professor teaching and advising students pursuing degrees in secondary English Education. I taught English for grades 8-12 for six years before making the jump to higher ed. I’ve been in this position for four years.

Another way is to plan to ask questions of each member during their presentation (if it is a presentation). This way I can see who has a firm grasp of the content and who is coasting along.

…and check the document as I’m grading—since I created, I can see the full history of the document and see who accessed it and what they added.
I might also add an additional assessment that requires students to explain their contributions to the group activity, and/or peer assessment.

Sure! Much of this depends on the specific group activity itself, but some general ideas are to require individual submission of work—this works if you require students in groups to take on specific roles. I also have created the Google doc (or slides) and shared it with the group…

Anyone use an app they’d recommend for keeping up with your home library? An app to document owned books, basically?

Yep, exactly! And helps take some of the pressure off of students who are so used to doing the most work in group assignments.

When I teach my education students about creating group projects, I try to ensure they meet two requirements in their design:
1. Set expectations for each member of the groups—establish jobs/roles.
2. Ensure grades are individual rather than a group grade.
Happy to talk more if needed!

i remember there used to be nights

when i didn’t have nightmares

when i didn’t wake up in the middle of every night terrified of losing everyone i love

losing myself

losing my very identity

i hope and fight for the day i finally see them drift into a hazy bad memory

Your Cherokee words for today.
The top word is English followed by how it is written in the Cherokee language followed by how it is spelled in English then how to pronounce it phonetically.
Image is line paper with writing showing an English word followed by how it is written in the Cherokee language followed by how it is spelled and pronounced. The words are indigenous people's day and pronounced ayheeyahee ahneeyuhwee eegah

Please don't just say "happy indigenous people's day" & slap an image of an indigenous person up you Googled. Do a little work, say their name. What tribe they are a part of, the works they did. Actually Celebrate them. Don't insult their spirit by reducing them to a clip art image. Alt text it too

On Indigenous Peoples Day I recognize the extraordinary history of Native communities, and the work left to do to reconcile the injustices they’ve faced and still do from our government.

Frog and Toad sat close by the fire. They were scared. The teacups shook in their hands. They were having the shivers. It was a good, warm feeling.
