Many years ago, a very fine historian (who probably does not remember this at all) told me: “this is a highly reputational business. I cannot afford to be associated with bullshit other than my own.” Though not intended to be, it is the single best piece of professional advice I have ever received.

Seizing the Initiative against Russia: Putting the United States in Control (1/6)

The US should adapt a ‘no sanctuary’ policy when it comes to Russia’ war machine. The Kremlin’s strategic assets — key to Russia’s war — enjoy sanctuaries in the shadow of the West’s reactive posture.

It is incredibly strange that these schools seem to factor in zero reputational, enrollment, or recruitment damage to their “settling with Trump” equation, when clearly there’s a major hit to all three.
We must keep calling out those that cave to the Trump Admin, and the latest is Northwestern.

As part of their "deal," NU will pay $75 million, stop vital research, renege on agreements with its students over the war in Gaza, and more.

Throwing your students under the bus to please Trump. Shameful.

This is gonna seem like a nitpick, but I think it's significant: It's not a professor, it's a graduate TA.

Thinking back on my time as a TA thirty years ago, universities use TAs as cannon fodder, asking them to hold certain rigorous lines but reliably failing to support them.
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

The Trump administration believes that the rich and powerful should be pardoned for their crimes, even after judges and juries determined their guilt.

But if you’re a non-white guy in a fishing boat, there’s no need for a trial or even an arrest. Murder from above, no questions asked.
When this criminal was jailed, the judge told David Gentile and America: ‘This is a warning to would-be fraudsters that seeking to get rich by taking advantage of investors gets you only a one-way ticket to jail.’ I guess not

Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this.

🧵⬇️
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

Every Western politician should know this quote by heart before opining on Russia-Ukraine. Of course the Russians want peace—it’s quite inconvenient for them that the Ukrainians are contesting their conquest!

Not saying the soldiers who were sent there were evil, they were figthing for their country.
What I condemn was the actions of Margaret Thatcher wich caused hundreds of deaths.
